Hi all new 68 GTO to me and found heater motor does not work tracing it down under the hood at the heater motor there is a condenser and wire attached to the motor but there is an open male plug so no power going to the heater motor, can anyone tell me where the wire to the plug comes from ? I did notice there is a wire that comes through the fire wall on the right side of the heater box it is sandwiched between the fire wall and the wheel well could that be the missing wire and maybe got stuck and not reinstalled when they detailed it ? I will have to put it on a hoist to track it down tomorrow any help would be much appreciated.

See diagram from InlineTube's website - look at upper left corner of the page on P 106 (file starts on page 103). This will show you the power wire entering the engine compartment from a rubber grommet just right of the heater box on the firewall (as you look at firewall from front of car). The wire is routed underneath the heater box then connects to the terminal at the blower motor.

Thank You very much, I had my thoughts this could be the wire, its wedged in tight or hung up on something between the fire wall and the wheel well should be an easy fix and will take my wife out for a warm ride this week end !!!

Gregg, It is very hard to get to your heater motor. You must remove your iner fender or take your fender off to replace it. Good luck Randy.

Thanks hopefully it won't come to that, looks like the wire is off and wedged between the fire wall and wheel well not connected to the heater motor, I'm hoping the motor will work when I reconnect the wire if not off comes the wheel well. I have heard that the stock heater motors don't blow very hard is there a better motor to replace if need be.

The blowers are fine in output. Usually, it is failures elsewhere in the system that cause diminished performance. Ensure solid, clean connections. Make sure your blower switch is fully operable (actually allows full power to blower per setting on switch). Good luck!

Thanks for the help it was the wire that was sandwiched between the firewall and the wheel well, I had to loosen the two 1/2" bolts on the wheel well to retrieve the wire, plugged it in and works fine. Taking wife for her first ride tomorrow and a warm one, extra nice for me as I like driving with the windows down and the heater on!!!

Heater worked perfect, after a nice day of cruising night came I turned on the lights and pulled the handle and post out of the switch head light doors opened and the front lights and break lights work but lost the tail lights and side marker lights ? should be an easy fix.

There is a "release button" on the switch that allows for the removal/insertion of the post into the switch. Reach under the dash and feel around on the body of the switch. Just to the side of where the vacuum line attach is a button that you depress. See the first picture in this ebay ad (mouse over the picture for zoom). Press this when inserting the post and you will be fine.

Thanks for the help, just went out and found the release button button comes out every time and goes back in ok but still no tail lights, plate light or dome light although the dome light works when the door is opened, fuse is good, I do see a white wire hanging down can't see where it goes, looks like its from the big wire deal and missing the plug, there is a lone white wire with a plug coming from the light switch socket, used a test light and no power to the trunk wire harness ? I was told the light switch is new something else ?

Did you re-seat the plug on the light switch terminal? Did the lights work before this incident? No Tail lights? What about Dash lights? If tail lights are out AND dash lights are out, then you have a FUSE blown. They use the same. So...if you're out driving around and have no dash lights, you can be fairly certain that you have no tail lights either. Do brake lights work?

I did re-seat the plug I just slid it in when it pulled it out and it locked ( did I do it wrong ) yesterday I depressed the release button and pulled the plug out and re-seated it again several times still no tail lights, back up lights, dome light with switch only or plate lights, head lights, dash lights, brake lights all work, dome light works when door is opened but not with the switch? will go out again this afternoon and try it again, will depress the release button and install the plug again if it works off to get lotto tickets.

I was speaking about the electrical connector the plugs into the light switch. I think that is what you are saying. It is possible that the light switch is worn out now. As a test, you could get a non-hidding headlamp switch (cheap - $11-$13 available all over) and merely disconnect the connector from the switch in the dashboard - leaving that one installed as is today. You could connect the non-hidden headlamp switch to the harness under the dash and test the function with it.

Just came in from the shop and did another release pulled the plug , did this several times and we have a bingo everything working great tail lights side lights all come on now, have to say again a real big thank you I would have never known about the release button without your help, now I am going to work on moving the seat back 2 or 3 inches leg room is short and it would help this old man with more room to work under the dash.
