GM Overseas Distributors Corp
This has been bugging me for awhile. My 70 T/A was delivered to GM Overseas Distributors Corp. in New York, New York. What exactly does that mean? Did a service man order it overseas and pick it up in New York? Did it go overseas? Curiosity is killing me! Thanks guys!

My 69 Firebird was billed to G.M. Overseas Operations. 1775 Broadway. New York. N.Y. for export to Australia where it was converted to RHD.

Does your PHS have any unusual charges for additional prep or delete seat belts, gauge conversion, etc?

Very cool! Were there any specific codes to show it actually departed the US?

My T/A build sheet is barely readable(as per bad microfiche), but there is definitely none of the overseas codes. Is that address one where someone from overseas could pick up their new car and drive home?

On the cars ordered that weren't actually leaving the US, they could request that they be delivered to the dealership of their choice and the car was just billed thru the GM Overseas department for accounting purposes. The dealership received a set fee from GM for the dealer prep and handling the delivery.
Here is an interesting article on the GM Overseas procedures during the Vietnam war timeframe: http://www.corvairkid.com/GMODMSTS.htm .

I've got no export codes on mine. The mystery remains on why it went there.

GM and/or PMD had special programs for military personnel back then.
Deep discounts. All those orders were processed through GM Overseas Dist Corp. They handled all the order processing from abroad. Few - if any at all - ever saw NY, NY. RicksGTO post is probably in line with your car. Here is a 69 Bird that was ordered by a military man. He still owns it. (original owner) Young man who is a member here found the car sitting. Got PHS - and tracked ownership - hoping to buy it. He has a thread about the whole saga in 67-69 section. He eventually spoke with owner and got details. Not for sale though. This one never left USA , believe it actually delivered to a Florida dealership. It does have a $5.xx export prep - for some reason. Export cars were discounted too. Seems like years ago we determined the military discount was deeper than the exports. In one of the GTO sections. foggy about it now Compare your pricing to an average invoice Post your invoice if possible |

This the invoice that I have for my 70. No codes that I can see for export. Musta had it shipped to a dealer. Is there any way to find where this car went new?

Is there anything else on the sheet at the bottom?
Is this from PHS? A PHS sheet normally has the 'Shipped to' and billed to codes on them. PHS may have more than one sheet for them? Interesting discussion.

Here's a pic of some of the info:
Does it have the 'Invoice Number' on your sheet also?

John, the only numbers on the bottom of the invoice are: TRK 2G44.
Also maybe a 1 GN 6E74 in the dealer code area. Looks like I also have an invoice code. Pretty blurry, but looks like: PLK 61326? My invoice number was in the upper right corner. |

Thanks!
The TRK 2G44 is probably the trucking order invoice number. So it was sent by truck instead of train probably. The PLK 61326 is the invoice number for this car. The P is for Pontiac, the 'L' is for Van Nuys, and the 'K' is probably for ???? shipping overseas? Not sure if we have that letter yet. Also not sure what the 1 GN 6E74 means. Might be useful. BVZ may be able to help on that.

Here's a PHS posted in another thread:
It shows 2 places the car went to. It 1st went to zone 21 - dealer zone # 991. Then it went to zone 21 - dealer # 187 where it was probably bought from. The invoice numbers have a 'ZRA' prefix which means it was for zone production/storage until some dealer needed one like it. The 'R' is for the plant Arlington in this case. The 'A' is for how it was paid to Pontiac. Yours is 'K' so it must stand for possibly being paid from oversees supplier/dealer?

You wouldn't have the build sheet from the car would you?
(very rare to find though) I think the '1 GN 6E74' may be the order number for the car. Possibly would have been on the build sheet.
