"Ugly" is in the eye of the beholder. I think the term "unusual color combos" would be more appropriate. What one person finds ugly, another finds beautiful. When you think about it, any "oddball" color combos were in fact ordered by someone, so someone must have loved it at one time.

Yep, totally subjective. Look how many folks today think any green car is ugly....Yet they sold hundreds of thousands of them. I almost think this anti-green movement is a type of mass hysteria. So many respected members here have dissed it, that others feel a subconscious urge to follow suit.
I had a Mayfair Maize car (one of the least popular cars today) and the very day I got it, I said' "I'll paint it black someday". Couldn't imagine that I could grow to love a yellow car. That color grew on me and to this day is still one of my favorites, especially with a black interior. The car made me love the color and I'd really like to have another just like it. Here's a Primavera '68 with Ivy Gold interior. Not a green interior but not way off. I can't see it fitting the description of 'ugly' if it did have a green interior...for what it's worth. ![]()

A yellow RAIV car with green guts and top? Could have been an executive for John Deere, or perhaps affiliated with the Green Bay Packers, who knows.

i have a 68 gto vert i'm restoring now and the color combo on it is primavera biege, gold top, and ivy green interior. it's a ys 400,th-400 w/ac,p/w,p/s,ralley guages w/in dash tach, chrome bumper, drum brake's,no posi or p/b. seems like a strange combo, and i'm torn between keeping it original or going white body with black top, int,endura,w/hide-a-way's. i still have time to decide but i have most of the parts for the latter. by the way, the wife like's latter! (lol)

My 69 vert was originally parchment guts, white top and LIMELIGHT. I know some people love that color, but there was no way that car was going to end up the original color.

I've always understood that with GM cars, the seat color determined the convertible top color. If it was dark green guts, your top was dark green. Sure seems to be that way on GTOs. Are these special order combinations?

Top color was chosen by the buyer, just like paint and interior.
There's nothing wrong with beige and gold or green. These are common combos on passenger cars, a bit less common on performance cars. |

My 68 GTO {dealer exucutive car] June 2007 HPP cover car was originally ordered in Primavera with a white interior before being changed to Merridian Turq when restored. I aliways said I would change it back to Primavera if I ever had it repainted. After seeing the beige conv in this thread, Im not so sure anymore. Primavera just doesnt "pop"

The car has been painted for a couple of years now. I have since seen other cars painted the same color and it reaffirmed my decision. I'm sure there are just as many out there who don't like red as there are who don't like limelight green. If it would have been a judge vert, I probably would've gone a 69 original color, (maybe black) but it still wouldn't have been limelight.

My 70 vert was orginally Sierra Yellow (aka primer beige) with sandlewood (beige) guts and a gold top (beige when I bought it) which n my book is THE ugliest and bland combo I've ever seen on a GTO vert. YUCK!
It might have looked a bit better with black guts and top, but I'm not going original on the colors during the restoration. It's going to be a slightly restomodded GTO so I'm not worried about it not being 100% factory original. It'll be either a color close to orbit orange or some bright blue color combined with a black top and interior. BTW I do like Palisade green, but I don't like colors that are too bland. I see waaaay too many boring bland modern cars at work everyday so that's why I like my classics bright and colorfull.
