Default 74 Grand Am Value?

After my recent purchase of a 2005 GTO, I need to sell one of my vehicles, and the old Grand Am is on the chopping block....maybe. It did a whole lot of sitting before, and now I am afraid it will be driven even less now that I have the GTO.

The car has been redone over the past 9 years, has caused me a lot of headaches, but in the end, I think it turned out nice. Original motor, 64 head, 700R4 tranny, Ford 9 inch rear, new In-design nose, new interior. What little rust it had was cut out, body stripped to bare metal and painted Eden Green Metallic. A/C car, I think I will try to get it working again before I sell it.

Any estimates on value? I was considering running it through the KC Mecum in late April, but am concerned about spending the $$.

Those seats are beautiful. They look very comfortable. I would say if the rest of your car is detailed the way the body and interior is, I would price it at $14,000. Mecum will charge, what 20% so you will get $11,200. If you don't have a reserve set at the auction it would probably fetch $7000 and they will say it's a good buy for a Friday night cruiser.

I have a 73 and I love the hell out of it. They are only worth something to the people who own them.

Nice car, better off selling it locally at a car show featuring 70's cars.

Mecum charges hammer price of 5% (if no reserve) and 8% (with a reserve) plus entry fee.

I agree I would try to sell it local first & then through some place like an auto trader as Mecum will see iy as just a driver because it's not a 69, or some kind of chrysler product . They feel those are the cars for money & you'll be in the back of the pack there. You have a nice car & it is worth more then they will want to sell it for.

I like the car, but not the late model seats.

My thought is that Mecum would probably clear me between $6K to $8K, and I would not really want to let it go for less than $10K in my pocket. I have no patience for people trying to talk me down, telling me what the car needs and what not, so I don't know for sure what my best alternative is. I suppose worse case scenario is that I keep it, but I just think it will start wasting away in my garage. Got some things to do before I try to sell it, will have to let you all know if/when it goes on the market

They are Procar seats, and I kind of regret that decision. I still have the originals if someone really wanted to have them redone to match the rest of the interior.

Nice Car.

Have you posted a FS @ ABody website? http://users.boardnation.com/%7Eabodysite/

Or here on PY? http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...play.php?f=460

Search your heart of hearts and establish what the min YOU would take for it, pad that amount and post some free ads.
You can add the auction entry fee and % sold commission to auction house...and come out ahead on your own.

Doesn't hurt to go fishing IMO, but something tells me you may change your mind on selling.

No worries either way. Keep us posted on your ad placements, sale, etc.

Sorry, wasn't trying to pick on you; I just like the bucket seat design on those Grand Ams.

No offense taken, I like those horseshoe buckets too! If I keep the car, I will likely put them back in after another trip to the upholstery shop.

Can Ams, '73 GTO's, Hurst Olds, 4 speed cars, Gran Sport Stage Ones do OK in the marketplace. They don't command the stupid money that some of the older cars do, but nothing to sneeze at.

All the cars that you listed are good cars but I still am partial to my 73 GTO & they all need to have white interior.

This is MY favorite so far (below). Could care less what anyone else's $$$ value for it is. JMHO.

We're talking Grand Ams here right? IMO "Fake Goats" Grand Am is excellent as it is.

I have a 75 Grand Am, fully loaded except for power driver seat. It looks as nice as yours and I too have too many cars. I think this car will go up in value and command a decent price as Pontiac is no longer and I believe these were low in production - 4000 for two doors? Just having it is enough. You will most likely regret selling it unless you get a good price and I wouldn't let mine go for anything less than 12,000. So I think the longer you hold onto it the more the value will increase as how many are still left?

Funny you should mention the $12K price, that is exactly what I would ask for it. I have been thinking about it and talking to the family and we all agree that I would regret selling it, so it looks like I will be keeping it for the foreseeable future.

Congrats. No surprise here, but then again I'm biased. Enjoy.
