Default Tie Rod Sleeve finish

Anyone know for sure what the typical metal finish was on 68 tie rod sleeves?

Zinc Clear Chromate
Zinc Yellow Chromate
Zinc Phosphate
Manganese Phosphate
Bare Steel
Painted Bare Steel
Black Oxide
?

Etc.

Thanks,
JohnnyB

Anybody?
My guess is black oxide, or maganese phosphate ...some kind of black finish. I don't recall them every being much of a different finish than the centerlink, which was natural sometimes with black overspray ...if I remember correctly.

PS. I'd love to see a P.Y. part finish database topic. A topic for each year covering what most commonly replaced parts were finished in, since I've seen the questions asked many, many times.

My originals were natural......they rusted when the car was only two years old.
Parts like those were serviced by more than one vendor and finishes varied from car to car,
vendor to vendor and plant to plant.
