Default Paint starts this week

After 1 year and 9 months, I'm finally at paint. I'm really chomping at the bit on this. I was hoping to have the car finished by April, but finances aren't cooperating. At least she'll have paint!! Plan is to have engine, trans and glass in by spring, then bring her home for me to finish interior and final tweaking. 455(mild) D-port E-heads. 200-4R Trans, Currie +9 rear(3.50 gear). Figure just under 400hp with about 575ft/lbs of torque. I'm not setting any dates, but I would love to catch the Bandit Run in Va Beach this June.

I just noticed you're in Hampton. I lived there for 25 years myself, and was witness to occasional illegal events involving vehicles on the area streets. Often Pontiacs were involved.
Ahhh, the memories.

Sounds like it will be nice when done. Good luck to you on your paint job!

Default Before pic and story

Thanks guys! The color is Bermuda Blue, looks a little light in the booth, but should be really nice in the sun. The work is being done at Outlaws Rod & Custom in Norfolk. I've had a really good experience with them. Because of the amount of work being done, and the recent financial problems (Gov. Contractor), I've had to finance the project in stages. The final stage for the shop will be to get the glass and weather-strip in, drop in the motor and trans then I will get her back and finish the assembly and wiring.

It's taken a couple of years to get to this point, but I'm happy.
Some of the highlights:
Complete disassembly, blasting and powder coating of frame and suspension.
Body blasted, rust in window channels and under package shelf repaired,
Rhino-lined under side of body (Protection from our salt air and minor road flooding at high tides)
Ford 9" rear with disc brakes and 3.50 Posi.
Front disc brake kit (replaced previous swap due to 10 years of rust and neglect).
'72 455, .030 over, 068 copy cam, (had 2900 miles on it in 2003, then sat for 8 years) added D-port E-heads after a quick clean-up/inspection.
March Style Track serpentine system.

When I first got it in San Diego, it was a one family car, handed down, original A/C, 2 speed auto, 326 2bbl, bench seat and still registered and running. I started with a Disc brake swap and a TH400 install, then ordered an engine from Pontiac Gregg in Colorado. Installed the engine and with 50 miles on it, I drove across to Virginia! Only problem was a heat soak vapor-lock because the manifolds were too close to the gas line going into the fuel pump.

Got to VA, bought a house and the project got stuck in the garage. Hurricane Isabel did a lot of damage and the car did not get the love and cleaning it needed, then 2 Nor-Easters added their damage and I finally got to the point of either selling the hulk or resto-modding it. As you can tell, I took the most expensive route.

Here she is the week before going to the shop:

OUTLAWS Now I remember or at least I think we had this discussion.
Hope your keeping a sharp eye on everything they do.

She looks good.
You may be one of the Lucky ones.

Best of luck, maybe our paths will cross over the summer.
Cheers

The trunk lid will get put on, then it's going to storage until I can pay off some bills. Keeping the hood off until the engine goes in. Figure about 3 months before anything else can get done. Sorry Guys...
