I heard on the radio just now, Carl Reiner is the last well known celeb from that movie. Although I don't think he had a major role.

"Requiem for a Heavyweight", with Jackie Gleason, and Anthony Quinn, is a great Mickey Rooney film. RIP, you had a long great run.

Reiner played the radio control tower operator trying to direct the plane flown by Rooney and Buddy Hackett (with a passed out Jim Backus on board).

Jerry Lewis also had very small bit part.

Lots of cameos in that great movie. My favorite short cameo of the entire movie is Jack Benny when he asks Ethel Merman if they need any help... I don't know why but JB could crack me up without saying a word...

I really don't know. I would think so. It's a pretty well known film from..if I'm not mistaken, a James Michener novel? I know it was a book before the movie. I was going to look for it on Netflix.

yeah he was great did it all, starred with em all too. one of his rarest movies "Baby face nelson" from 1957 is being reproduced in fl and sold on e-bay from animalfd , who sells a lot of old out of print movies and tv shows. 19$ total, its a transfer from 16mm, a good copy too.i got my copy really fast,its a typical ganster shootum up, but i had to get a copy because Carolyn Jones is in it, she stars as his "wife".
