Default 1971 TA fiberglass

has anyone had any experience with a fiberglass nose and hood for 70-73 T/A. I've recently restored both the nose and the hood for my car but Id like to take some weight off the front end to improve the handling. Id like to maintain a stock appearance so Id like to have the nose and lower valance be seperate pieces. What vendors have you had experience with and what do you recommend. Does anyone make the lower valance, front spoiler, and the flares in fiberglass that is a quality part? Id like to get a hood that looks as stock as possible so that means the vent grills in the back. Thanks, I know someone has ben through this already. What about front fenders?

We do Carbon parts (fenders, inner wheel well, hoods and noses)... There are a lot of options for glass too I believe (VFN, US body),,,, gues it's all about budget and wants/needs...

Here are some examples of our parts:

I soooooo want to do a CF hood and nose. How do you keep the CF from yellowing over time? I like the two cars above, they're close to what I had it mind for my car, but Im afraid of yellowing.

Well im not opposed to CF I just dont think its appropriate for an early seventies car. I would completely paint the parts parts anyway. I also make CF parts fo my own consumption but I dont want to invest the time. Are these parts wet layup, vacuum bagged, or autoclaved? How many layers of CF? Price for nose and hood? Do you replicate the inner structure? I can supply the cloth and resin if needed. Please PM me with your phone number so we can discuss construction details and pricing. Thanks, John

My car has had a VFN Fiberglass nose since 1992/93. Has Held up great with the consideration of around 12,000 street miles and probably close to 150 1/4 mile drag runs. It has shown NO signs of stress , cracking or fatigue. This is a 12.3 @108 mph car , that is no slouch in the corners either, full Poly Suspension , body mounts, ect... No rubber left in my car besides the tires.

Being that you are going to Paint the parts anyway ....... For the Quite a diffrence in Price between carbon VS fiberglass .... And the Little Bit of Weight savings between CF vs. Fiberglass, I would say it all on bragging rights and how deep your pockets are.

First picture is with a 2-1/4 Cowl hood from Unlimited Products.

Second picture with an orig Formula hood.

How do you install the lights and the grills in the glass or CF pieces? Is there a structure already built in for all that stuff or does the buyer need to fab up the mounting points?

Yellowing is a function of the epoxy resin not the Carbon it's self.... It will yellow or cloud over time (about 3 years roughly speaking) and pending the amount of direct sunlight... We as do all players in the market that I am aware of,, use UV protection by way of UV clear...

The parts are wet layup bagged, epoxy with 2 layers 18oz Carbon (both inner and outer hood structure)... The number for Carbon Kustoms is 416-566-9660...

Mounting points are provided for the grills and lights are mounted in the traditional Pontiac fashion....

Your car looks beautiful indeed,, and the Carbon is more of a serious pro-touring option for the most part when it, along with all the other parts are carefully considered for weight and strength is a matter of focus.. As a single part I agree, the difference really isn't that substantial and your option is certainly a Hell of a lot more economical approach.....

The only car we every ran on a quarter mile track was one of our Camaro's (ran a 12.3 at 129 mph after letting off 3/4 of the way down and coasting as I had a 1.5 reaction time and 3 second 60ft)... I didn't know what a Pro tree was and dual staged, looked over to nod in a sporting like fashion to the other driver that was single staged (and watching my every move)... He staged and bugger off while I was looking over at him,, then I stabbed it and liquified the tires LOL... Needless to say, I was at the track that day for a fun BBQ a few friends where having and was talked into making my first and last 1/4 mile run I think LOL.... I couldn't be any further removed from interest, or desire to do participate in straight line than your average tree hugger... That said there are a lot of guys and gals that do enjoy the heck out of it and God bless them... In the end that's why they call it Hotrods,,,, we all build them in our own ways and for different desires....
