Lower dipstick tube and main studs
Just wondering what other people are doing that have ran into this. I added main studs and align bore over the winter. The lower tube bolts to the main cap but the height of the stud is in the way, the most obvious solution would be to rebend the bracket some and just put a few stacked washers between the bracket and main cap probably about 3/16 ", or replace one of the studs with a threaded hole and bolt it to that. Or modify the bracket and put it under the nut on the main stud itself? Really don't know if I want to do the last one. I'm not running a windage tray either.

Bill,
I've used longer "carb studs" to extend the bracket down. Use a nut on both sides of the bracket. Jim |

Like what Jim said, and also, whatever you do, do not put the dipstick tube bracket under the main stud nut. The steel on the bracket is not hard enough to be used as a main stud washer.

I just did this last night and bent the bracket over the stud. Everything looks like it will work just fine.

ATTENTION!!! I just built my motor at the end of 2013 and had this same problem. I just slightly bent the pickup tube tab so it would go over the ARP 4 bolt stud. After assembly and adding oil (motor installed) i realized that my dipstick isnt reading correctly. Its almost like the stick isnt going into the sump of my moroso 7qt pan. Just make sure you keep correct geometry of where the stick is going to be if you tweak the lower tubes mounting tab. Now i have to pull the motor out to fix it and a couple other things.

If you use an OE style tray, the later one I believe, it holds the lower tube in place, and you use the tube that doesn't have the bolt-to-cap bracket.
If you use the lower tube that doesn't have the strap, make sure you have a new tray. The OE ones have a tendency to crack at the point the tube passes through. I've seen when using the bolt on lower tube that was bent, after a number of stick inserts and removals, the lower tube bends out of the way, and you won't be able to get the stick in anymore. Just be careful whichever tube you use, make sure the stick moves smoothly in and out, and don't ever force it in. .
