Default 69 GP Hood weight??

Just curious if anyone knows what a hood from a 69 GP weighs. Don't want to know for any reason in particular, just curious. Also, what's the length?

I know the hood is one inch shy of six feet and as far as weight I would say between 75 to 100 lbs

The only hood I ever had off that was heavier and longer is a 76 Eldorado hood. I thought the GP was the heaviest until I took one off of that Eldorado.

My 69 GP race car I gutted the reinforcement out and split it at the firewall and hinged it there that took about 1 foot and a bunch of weight out of it. One person could open it then without getting a hernia.............LOL

Picture of the hood before I split it and gutted it:

Think you should add another 100 pounds to that guess....
The hood off my 60 Ventura pushes 145-150 pounds!!
The GP hood is bigger. Thank God it has a fiberglass on it now.

The VFN 'glass hood for 60 weighs 10 pounds...the 'glass hood for 69 GP weighs 20 pounds..
See what I mean..

The GP hood is around 100-120 pounds, had one I was storing for many years and moved it around enough to know it is nowhere near 150 or 200 pounds.

Couldn't find a buyer or even anyone to take it for free, scrapped it after having it in the way for 10+ years.

By way of comparison:

'74 Chevelle -

Steel hood = 80 lbs
Glass bolt on (US body Source) = 40 lbs
Glass lift off (US body Source) = 20 lbs

The guy next door has a bunch of GP parts. I'll see if he has a hood we can weigh.

I had a similar experience but I was trying to weigh the whole car.

A side note...How to remove a hood from a 69 GP by yourself in the junkyard....

Stand on the air cleaner, facing forward.
Unbolt, with hood lying on your back to support it, wearing it like a turtle shell.
Grab sides, step on to core support then on to the truck tailgate.

Oh to be 21 again....

I can beat you on that one!!

When I was 21 (I'm 49 now) my friend blew the 455 non HO in his 72 GTO big time. Being a true blue friend I found a 72 GP SJ in a scrap yard with a 455 and drove up there in my 71 Impala daily driver. I was alone and managed to get the engine in my trunk without help and only a handheld toolbox and no jack!!

How?
removed the hood and the driver side fender and left front tire (car was up to its axles in muck),
yanked the rad etc,
removed all the accessories such as carb, steering pump, AC etc
removed the intake, heads and exhaust manifolds, timing cover and cam-lifters
unbolted the engine mounts, starter and bellhousing
dragged the engine forward enough to clear the converter and flywheel (removed them)
rolled the engine over with the help of a large branch
pulled the oil pan and oil pump
pulled the crank and pistons
manhandled the block over the frame rails and upper control arms
lifted it into the trunk of my Impala

Amazingly I put the engine back together without replacing any parts (just gaskets) under less than sterile conditions in my parents driveway using only the carb and distributor from the original GTO engine. We dropped it back into the GTO and he drove it for 3 years (sadly he died at 24) and the guy who bought the car still has it today and drives it a 100 miles or so every year. Engine still runs fine 28 years later!!

My back never did recover from that day in the scrap yard though.
