Default 350 build

I have a 71 Pontiac lemans with a 350 it has an after market intake and a 4 barrel qjet carb.
How can I make it faster without rebuilding or stroking it out? Eventually I want to put a super charger on it down the road but is there anyway I can make it faster before I do all that?

Ahh... Welcome, 350 brother!

There is the usual bolt on combos that make it breathe better - intake/carb, headers/exhaust, etc. You already have the aftermarket intake setup. If I were you I would make sure my ignition was up to snuff with properly operating mechanical and vac advance. A good working hei will do you very well, nothing crazy.

After that, you could get headers, but I think stock logs and dual exhaust would be totally adequate for stock heads and mild cam upgrades. A stock cam is most likely your constraint. But that starts getting closer to engine rebuilding. I would go for a new cam.

I have been having fun with my 350 and Summit 2800 cam. I am still seeing how much I can squeeze out of it.

What rear gears do you have?

72 Lemans with a 350, cast iron intake, Qjet, Summit 2800 cam, stock manifolds, 2 1/2" dual exhaust, 3.36 open rear. Its fun to drive. I had some trouble getting it tuned right, but I like it. I just pulled the 7H1 heads (7.7:1 compression) and was gonna put 62's on it but they need a rebuild. That would have put me over 9:1 compression. Instead I put 47 heads on it. That should give me around 8.5:1. If you already have a 4 bbl, a cam change should be a nice improvement.

I forgot to mention that it does have dual exhaust with glass packs. How much would a summit racing cam run me?

$115 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/su...w/make/pontiac
There are other choices too. There's a few 350 fans here who can offer their opinions.

Would you guys know of anything more aggressive? Something that I could use with the stock motor now but would maybe work for different heads in the future

Summit 2801 or Pontiac 068. You have to be careful, though if you have press in studs. They can't handle too much lift. Another member here has an 068 cam in his 350. Stick around and I'm sure you'll get plenty of help.

'71 350 with dual exhaust isn't enough to go on. What is the static compression? Chamber size? Press in studs? What pistons? What transmission, stall convertor, rear gears?

If it is a low compression engine with press in studs stick with the 2800. For $120.00 you can trash it when you get new heads. Heads, cam, exhaust, intake all play together. The cam that will be on target with one set up will be way off with the other.

I'm no expert, just offering my opinion.

I had my #s matching 71 350 rebuilt last year.
-Bored .40 over
-Summit 2800 cam
-Shaved stock #94 heads down 50 thousands (approx. 8.7 to 1 compression)
-ARP studs
-Holley 670
-Edelbrock intake
-HEI

Engine dynoed at 290hp and 370 torque. I have a 3.08 rear gear. If had it to do over again, I probably put a 3.42 in the rear. Car runs pretty strong, but has a hard time getting off the line.
