A;lot of them for sale, I really thought this was going to be a great intake, first the holes don,t line up with the heads , throttle bracket boss is a mile to high to bolt stock bracket to. No provisions for power brakes.So what happened to the guy who designed this inrake??? Still on someone,s payroll???

I found my car ran better with the rpm than the torker ii (with my previous cam), it does leave a little to desire in fitment though.

My car (69 firebird) run great with it, 455, #62 (unported) heads, 850 Mighty Demon, 1.60 60' , 3.73 gears, foot brake. fitment was not an issue...I never used an air cleaner, Lockar throttle cable and after market braket, this was street-strip car only..

RPM is a "race" intake according to Edelbrock. Race intakes generally require "fitment", and don't necessarily "bolt right in", regardless of engine family. Performer and the Torker series are "replacement" manifolds, so they're much closer in out-of-the box fit. Victor often requires specific fitting to an engine as well.
RPM is the "red-headed stepchild" for most Pontiac applications. I like them on street/strip engines under 420 CID and higher revs. The bigger engines tend to get a "rush" of torque that wreaks havoc with traction and consistency. For milder streeters, the factory Q-Jet intake is a better "balance", IMO. FWIW Jim |

Welcome to the aftermarket. If you want to use it you have to do whatever you have to do to make it work, it's a good street/strip intake. More often than not you will have to modify an aftermarket intake.

I bolted an RPM onto a small block chevy back in the mid-90's with no problems, but it does seem like they never quite go onto Pontiacs that easily.

in the 12 years that I have owned my 69 GTO with a 400/462, I have tried stock cast,Performer,Performer RPM, T-1 & T-2 intakes.
I then had my cast intake sent to SDPERFORMANCE to be cut/modified as per Ruggels. I have raced street/strip in the 1/4 mile with all intakes and FOR ME.... the modified cast intake was as good or better also every thing fits. I have tried square bore and spread bore carbs with the intakes. I run a modified Q-JET. My 2cents

Had no problems with mine on 48 & 6X heads. Excuse me, problem I had was that air cleaner wing nut scraped the hood.

Mine didn't fit well, and I lost patience trying to make it fit. Pulled the ripcord and tried something else.

I have one on my 428 with 6X heads. My motor was built by Paul Spotts and it was obvious that the bolt holes had been modified to make the intake fit. That being said it fits fine and I have no issues. Yes I had to get a different throttle cable bracket but I had to modify the throttle cable bracket on the Edelbrock intake that I installed on the 440 6-pack in my 72 Challenger.
Personally I like the look of an aluminum intake on my car. Since it's a street car only, I'm not overly concerned about missing a few HP from one intake to another. If I was running my car at the track on a regular basis, then I would put a lot more time and effort into intake manifold selection.

I've also tested a pile of intakes and carburetors on these engines, track and at the dyno.
To 500hp my "modified" factory iron intake is a solid 6HP better than the RPM (no spacer on either one). At higher HP levels the RPM will start to show it's colors, probably worth at most 10hp over a stock intake at past 550hp or so, but it woln't really outrun it by much at the track, since low and mid-range power will be very close. For the few extra HP one gets on the dyno with some of the aftermarket intakes, I'll take the stock intake as the fit is much better. For really high HP levels, up and over 700hp, I would NOT use the RPM. They have at least one runner than is deficient and can lean out that cylinder and pound down the rod bearing. Can't remember which one it is, but one of the runners gets a tad restrictive where another one lays over it or under it, and it's pretty difficult to access and not enough material to effectively correct the issue without busting thru into the other runner. A few years ago I removed the RPM intake from my current engine and went to a ported factory HO intake. I HATED having to use a shorter Shaker top and custom air filter in the opening, and wanted to put all the stock parts back in place. The car was well under the roll bar rule anyhow, so I didn't care if it gave up anything. I also installed full length mandrel bent 2.5" tailpipes at the same time, to "tame" down the exhaust note some past the straight thru 3" mufflers. To my surprise the car still runs 7.20-7.30's in so-so air at our local 1/8th mile track, around 95-96mph. I just figured the last two modifications would slow it down to 7.40-7.50's which would put the car around 11.50-11.60 at a 1/4 mile track. Also keep in mind I'm comparing these intake on an engine in excess of 550hp/600tq. I have to chuckle a bit when I see folks "hacking" up or buying "special" parts to install an RPM intake on a low compression 400 engine making under 400hp. IMHO, the RPM is a complete waste of time/funds for most of the set-ups we see them end up on over here in the Street section. I've also ran into fitment issues with them, but they are easily corrected. We find a lot of them not wanting to sit down on the heads, which only involves removing some material from the bottom of each flange all the way across them. Same deal with many of the BBC Edelbrock intakes I've installed. I have seen a few Pontiac RPM intakes with very poor port alignment, and have had to open up the bolt holes a few times to get all the bolts started. In the FWIW department, I wouldn't even look at that intake unless you are over 500hp and/or don't have a decent stock intake to work with.......Cliff

TII is square bore only, a guy can run a qjet on an RPM without an adapter.
I heard the same guy that designed the Prius is the one that designed the RPM intake.

The T-II is an EXCELLENT intake.
However, they REQUIRE at least a 1" spacer to get full potential out of them. Square flange only is another downside mentioned. The T-II with a well made spacer/850DP/HP950 on it will rival the Victor/Dominator out past 650hp, back to backed them on many occasions. It still doesn't really start to shine over any dual plane intake till past 4400rpms or so, and will give up some "grunt" down low, etc. If you want bragging rights on a dyno run, by all means get the T-II intake, put at least a 1" spacer on it, or an adapter if you are using a spread bore carburetor and good to go. For most of these engines the RPM will be fine, if you have the clearance for it, and don't mind some "cobbling" on occasion to install one. If you are into "stock appearing", or just like to use as many stock parts as possible, for most set-ups we see talked about in the street section, it's difficult to outrun the stock parts anyplace, especially if they have been "massaged" a bit by someone who knows their way around these things.....Cliff

The 74 FB is using an EGR intake, crappy 4X heads, and "log" manifolds as well. It runs into the 10's and the 68 RAII FB runs low 10's.......Cliff
