Thanks....it's been a long treck, but everything has been done at cost (thanks to you guys). The remaining stuff required for the provincial inspection were the heater core, weatherstripping and the rear bumper has to go back on. The place doing the paint job is doing all this work at cost, and will be doing all the remaining provincial inspection stuff I just mentioned. Once I get it back I will have to fix the vacuum leak I made when I replaced the intake (yay me) and then I am away to the races.

Only thing that sucks is it is a custom S and not a GTO so I feel bad putting money into it. From what I see on here and a few other sites is anything that isn't a GTO is pretty much worthless.

My advice would be to stop looking at the car as a monetary investment and you'll enjoy your Custom S as much as I'll enjoy my GTO.
If it makes you feel any better, just know that every time I look through the Judge Forums, I get the same message.
I used to have a '74 455 Trans Am and it was the same with that one because it wasn't a Super Duty.

There is definitely a "muscle car hierarchy".. which has nothing to do with enjoyment. I have a plain jane 70 malibu with a restoration beginning to show its age. It has a pretty stout 383 in it which has run 8 seconds flat in the 1/8 mile, so the enjoyment level is high, regardless of the muscle car hierarchy and the way it looks at the moment.

He told me he guesses there were about 7 different layers of paint on it

Glad to see you are still at it. Watched the manifold thread but you were getting plenty of good advice so I didn't jump in.

Yup. If you are into collecting cars that's one thing, but if you want to drive and enjoy that is another. If my Lemans convertible was a GTO in exactly the same condition it would be worth too much for me to really enjoy. But being a Lemans I have no problem using it as fun weekend transportation, putting it on the drag strip, etc. And no worries about keeping it numbers matching. I drove it across the state a few weeks ago to visit my sister, 300+ miles round trip in one day. Had a blast.

Fix up your Custom-S how you want it, and drive it like you stole it!!

Thanks, ya I know full well cars aren't to be considered an investment, but I know for a fact I got a steal of a deal on my Viper, and it didn't happen the same with this one. But I do keep my eye on comparable GTO convertibles and they have to be worth $10k more at minimum, so I will suffer.

That being said the weatherstripping was back-ordered will will not be arriving in time so I will have to try to do this myself.

Also, it is odd, but I bought two heater cores for a 69 Custom S, one for with a/c and one for without. Neither of them fit so I am still without a heater core. I don't know if it was because it was a 6 cyl back in the day, but he kept that part apart for me to solve and fix it when I get back.

So not sure if i will get this stuff done by Aug 8 for the final big car show in my city.

Anyway here are some more pictures. All painted and ready to be polished

That looks good! Don't worry about the perceived pecking order. It seems there is one for everything. Drive it and enjoy it.

Besides that, I just checked and there were only 2,379 Custom-S convertibles produced compared to 7,328 GTO verts and 5,676 Lemans verts in 1969. And how many do you think are still on the road and in nice condition? When asked I enjoy pointing out that our cars are actually much rarer than GTOs

Your car is going to be very sharp, now waiting for pics with the badges and chrome re-installed.

Thanks. Ya i bought brand new emblems for this. Tail light bezels need some work but i can do that over the winte. the polished rocker panel pieces are in rough shape and will have to eventually be replaced. I would have liked to be done all the odd jobs before it was done being painted but as you guys know I am not the fastest at working on this car.

Either way it looks and runs 100 times faster then when I got it
