Default 69 WS

Today I went and picked up a 69WS engine complete carb to pan for my 69 Judge the engine date codes are block 9790071 H218
EUN 029304 WS
Intake H198
Carb 7028273 XX
Heads H158 and H218
The Vin is 29B162831
From what I understand the block heads and intake were cast in August of 1968 my car
Was built 3A 1st week of March 1969 so I thought the engine would be built a little early for my car but when you look at the vin number on the engine it is 500 later then the vin on my car my vin is 242379B1623xx
So is it possible for this engine to have been installed in a car in March

7 months...Same as my Arlington '68 car and mine has the original engine.
Engine was cast in October '67 and car was built 3rd week of May '68.

Personally, I'd be happy finding all those RA III engine pieces in one place for a 4 speed Judge.

Nice score!

Nice score!

You could send the partial VIN to PHS and see what the car was originally.
It would have the shipped date which would give you an idea of how close it would be to your car.

Hi Darren,
Nice score! You should get the PHS run for the VIN on the block. That will give you dates as well.

Nice score but shouldn't it have a 7 digit EUN? Did you leave off one of the leading zero's?

Thanks guys I've been looking for a correct type engine on and off for this car since I picked it up in 1988 so I was quite happy when this one came up. I am going to call George on Monday and run the vin and find out when the car was built so it is possible that this engine didn't make it into a car for 7 months that's quite a long time

Cleaned up the dist today and it's numbers are 1111941. 8K11 so did they use I in the date codes in 69 or not what I'm wondering is the dist code nov 11 1968 or Oct 11 1968

No 'I' code on a stamped part.
So, you're distributor did not have 'I's' for the year thus Oct 11 1968 is date for it.

Actually I think they went to 7 digit EUNs later in 69.
Not sure I have a break off point yet.

I do notice that if it is a 1968 cast block it had 6 digit EUN, except for 1 Dec 1968 cast block.

Hi Darren,
Nice find! That's the same distributor and date that is on my 69 Judge. Some would try to say that is a RAIV distributor only, which is incorrect.
Most "electrical type" components like distributors, voltage regulators, starters did not use the "I" in date stamps, while in 69 cast pieces such as water pumps, blocks, heads, intakes did use the "I" in casting dates.

My Judge has the same distributor. I believe the 941 was used in many of the early RAIII 4-speed engines.

I have also heard of one other RAIII car with August date coded engine parts and a large spread to the build date of the car. The October 11th distributor probably means that the engine was not assembled until at least October--correct?

Strange about the almost seven months. Perhaps the delay in the release of the RA III till new years 69 had something to do with it. Maybe a bunch of engines were built before they stopped them. I always suspected the ram air system was behind the ram air engine coming out 5 months late.

That is THE earliest 69 model WS i have ever heard of.
GTO School just never ever stops !

It is crazy strange that its VIN is so close to your 3A VIN ...

In case it matters any , since it is Baltimore built - and only an engine involved - you could get the PHS for a lot cheaper than the GM of Canada Report .

I am not sure if the 1969 GM of Canada Report would include the EUN
If it does - it would be worth the difference for the additional cross-reference.

You might have paid too much, but after all these years, its gotta be worth it.

I have an 08D 71 Judge and it's a June (F) 1970 cast.

Man that's an early motor. When did they start the 71 production on motors and cars? O8D is the same on my car. Is yours lucy blue?

My Judge is white with black spoiler black interior. WT7 look but only way to document is with a build sheet or forensic.( no cost option) Neither is likely so it exists as a early build late to dealer car. Said to be a brass hat car by JM based on PHS.

It does retain it's original drivetrain and components. So I can get dates off of items. Early stuff is the cross over.

Later stuff is the alternator.
