Are these factory seconds? It's my understanding SGI produces the forgings for all other China based companies (Eagle, Scat, Ohio, etc). If so, any one know why these are over $200 less than other vendors? http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051...AMOTORS%3A1123

We built a 505 with one of the first SGI crankshafts that were available. It was supplied by KRE with one of their blocks, 505cid, and makes up near 750hp. The cranks was spot on in every area and didn't need to be touched, just plug and play. It has lived a good life at that power level, car runs into the high 9's.
We had the engine out to be freshened up last year after it destroyed the oil pump drive. The cranks actually hit the drive and busted it up pretty good. The cranks was in mint shape and all the bearings were fine. We cleaned up the pieces, rolled new rod bearings in it, new valve springs, replaced all the cracked Scorpion rocker arms with Crower Enduro's, and right back in service......Cliff

Are you aware of any factory seconds? I ask due to the $200 difference...

I've seen some "H" beam rods are really low prices that were available due to being off some for fit/finish, so yes, they would be considered "seconds".
Not sure about crankshafts, but anything bought from any source needs to be checked for size, fit, finish, etc, that's just part of complete engine building and getting better sleep at night!......Cliff

We have used several SGI cranks. Never a problem with any of them. They balance easy too. So I would say, no on the seconds.
Those guys selling them for that, probably bought into a killer pricing deal so they could undersell others. Make just a few bucks off of each, but sell a lot. A lot of them E-bay guys do that.

Quick question about those listed in eBay; Some are listed as Forged 4340 Nitride and another is listed as Forged 4340 Steel. Is there a difference or is it two different words for the same thing?

4340 is a grade of a steel alloy. Nitride is a surface treatment that makes the bearing surface harder.
