Windows XP updates?
Since MS stopped supporting XP, I'm wondering why I occasionally still get automatic updates on my XP machine.
We only use the XP for our office accounting and import costings and often it only gets turned on once or twice a week. Sometimes less so. Had it running yesterday and I was surprised that at shut down up popped 2 automatic updates. Which I let run. Are they still putting out updates??? Just wondering? Ian

One would be the Malicious Software Removal Tool Update. Seems to happen once a month.

I'm still using it too. Have it on three computers and have plans for those Computers with XP.
Use the ipad to surf, but projects and homework is done on XP. The system is just to good with to much application software to up and abandon.

Due to my whole system about to apply for retirement after 10 years, I bought a new PC loaded with 8 and activated the free upgrade to 8.1. I have no problem with 8.1 but have to say I downloaded "Start is Back" to make things simpler and like what I was used too.

I'm still on XP as well. I have not looked to see what updates it might be getting. Its on my list to replace the computer as it make no financial sense to try and upgrade it.
From what I read XP is just a time bomb for hackers now. Your Win7 and up OS will get new updates. Hacker look at each fix a new pc will get, determine what venerability they are resolving and then attack the XP machines that can't get the patches. |

I've taken XP out of our loop but have retained it for our accounting system as I mentioned earlier. It's still linked to a secondary internet cable but is in no way linked to our regular office computers.
All banking and e-mails (and these forums etc), run independantly on Windows 7. When XP support was withdrawn, our bank started sending constant reminders saying they would not be held liable for any inappropriate transactions placed on an unsupported system. That was enough to make me jump up to 7 Just to show what a Neanderthal I am, I'll have to confess 2 years ago, I was still using Excel on Windows 95 running on a 486. I used to do all our import costings on it but had to stop only because the printer linked to it died. In fact I only chucked it out a few weeks back. Sad day as it was just so friendly to use. Modern technology is sometimes not suitable to us old guys!!!  Ian
