The console on my 66 GTO is missing the small latch adjustment piece. Anybody have one they want to part with or can someone post a picture of one so I cam make a copy?

Unfortunately you are not missing a latch piece but the latching area has been broken out. At some point someone must have made a patch and screwed it on, which accounts for the screw holes. The glove box probably got locked sometime and someone just pried it open, which will break that pot metal area.
The area should be solid as shown in the picture below. I have repaired a few consoles that were broken similar to yours. I make a metal piece that goes on the backside of this area and JB Weld it in place. You can then fill the front side with more JB Weld or another type of good filler, sand and contour it, and finally paint it. It looks completely original from the top and has good strength. This is a glove box latch so it doesn't have to withstand extreme pressure, with the exception of someone forcing it as noted above. Remember, this is pot metal so your repair options are limited. Also, don't pound on it for whatever reason or you could break it more. Hope this helps. Terry Last edited by xgoater; 11-20-2014 at 11:10 PM. |

repaired.. I was able to cut and bend a piece of steel to fit between the two points. Secured it with some Permatex cold weld. Filed to size. Looks like it will work. Lid fits nice & tight now.

Nice work. I've got a similar issue with mine that needs to be addressed. I'll get to it later this winter when the interior comes out.
