Default 96' Toyota Camry engine R&R

Sigh....
Anybody done one?
Single mom that's a friend of my wife just blew the engine up the 1st day she owned it (private party sale,)! She wants me to swap in a used engine. I've never done a FWD car engine swap. Not looking forward to this in this F'ing cold weather but...
PIA,or piece of cake? (I'd like to wait till spring!)

They both come out the top anyhow, But the 6 harder than the 4. Might have to take the crank balancer off to get it out. Will ask guys tomorrow at work and post tomorrow night. I know they have done a few. Do you have a hoist?? Working on ground might be a B**th. Have to undo exhaust from underneath.

Thanks LeMans.
No hoist and NO HEAT in my garage!
I know I can do this,I just get a little intimidated sometimes by FWD foreign cars because it's out of my element. I've owned a few,but never done a trans or engine swap on one.
Why can't people blow stuff up in the summer? LOL

To keep it simple, I'd try to swap in the exact same engine from the exact same model from the exact same model year - just to minimize the chance of something not matching.

If it's a '96 Toyota engine, and it blew up, I'd bet that it's a 6. They had problems with the oiling in those. When you replace it, make sure she knows how to check the oil - and to change it regularly. Toyota spent a bundle on warranty new engines for those back in the day.

They said it will come out the top, BUT you may have to take off exhaust manifolds in order to get it out, kinda tight. has 6 convertor bolts, 1 is different colour, when reinstalling start the different colour 1 first, it centres the bolt holes, then u can tighten as you install them. Just ask if need any more help.

Just so you don't get confused, You must seperate the trans from the engine and remove just the engine by itself. Otherwise you would have to remove the complete assembly from underneath with cradle.

It will come out the top if you remove the balancer.
