Can pictures that were accidentally deleted from an sdhc card be retrieved? The card has not been formatted.

I've been using the same digital camera card for a couple of years now. Never had a problem uploading from it. I recently tried to upload a pic from it, but nothing happened. I discovered that the entire card had been wiped clean.

TJ put it in her camera and tried to take another pic--nothing. The card is totally useless. So, I told her to just throw it away. I've been able to retrieve most of the pics from this and other sites where I had posted them. But there were others on it which I had not posted anywhere, they are just lost.

So, the bottom line is ALWAYS transfer your pics to your computer or a memory stick or both, or somewhere, so that if anything happens to the card, you want lose the pics. Or, to put it another way, always have a back-up.

Typically, the files are not magically removed when you delete files.

What the operating systems do is mark those storage areas as available to use (overwrite). That's why it's important to NOT use the memory card, disk, etc. if you unintentionally delete some files.

The information is still there.......the recovery software finds the files.
