“Hello! I was happy to bid on this beautiful decanter, but unfortunately I need to cancel due to an unexpected life event. I apologize, I was buying this item as a gift for a close friend, and at the time I had the funds to cover my bid. However, I had an unexpected major expense overnight. I'm babysitting my son’s dog and yesterday she broke out of my fence and was hit by a car, I rushed her to the Animal ER (had to pay for all surgery out of pocket). She’s in critical condition still. And now my credit card is maxed, and I don’t even know how I’m going to pay my bills this month. This has never happened to me before, in fact, I just bought something on ebay over a week ago. I am so sorry for the inconvenience. Will you please cancel this order?”
Read up on his performance and it shows: Detailed item information is not available for the following items because the feedback is over 90 day old. He did have one positive that was during the last 6 months. What do you think, give him a break or notify ebay? |

Might just be me but I'd say give him/her a break. Didn't really cost you anything but time. Next auction you might get higher bid for your good karma..

Yeah, I agree on the cutting slack. I have had great luck on E-Bay over the past 15 years. A couple of weird/scamming incidents that make no sense, but in this case it is all about the person to person aspect. Reap what you sew.

I'd let it go, at least they contacted you with some kind of explanation for not paying. We just had our dog in the Animal Hospital for 2 days & the bill was over $2500.
We've had more non-paying bidders this last year than in 14 years on ebay. Now the ones that simply ignore repeated invoices/attempts to contact and never pay deserve to get a non paying strike. |

If you can get your fee back call it even.
Even if they did get a non payment strike on their account that's nothing that we can see when they bid on our items so what good does it do? I sold a car last month on e-Bay and the guy seemed to think that winning the auction simply gave him more time to decide if he wanted to buy it or not - which he eventually did not.

Thanks for the replies. When I first read his email it sounded like someone just having a little fun bidding on an item and then cancelling it. Gator67 I agree.
