This guy says this wood steering wheel is off a 67 gto. Cant make out the numbers. Any help would be appreciated as im looking for one.

Looks like an aftermarket Grant wheel. About $175 on ebay. Cool, but definitely not origional unless I am mistaken. Fits well with the GTO and a common swap.

Ive got one of those grant wheels. Its not painted black though. I dont like it. A friend sold me a wood one that he had but it needs to be restored. So until I find the time, it sits in a box.

Sidebar: I was walking through the building on my way home from work last night and the video monitor caught my eye. It had this full screen image of a GTO simulated wood steering wheel so it stopped me in my tracks and I read the text.

It was something about "This month in GM History" and was talking about how Pontiac Motor Division was formed from the Oakland Division on January 20th, 1926.

I can't say what instantly popped in my head but it was somewhere between "yah - thanks ALOT " and "...only to be speared by Buick sales in China 80 years later..."

'Course, I guess there was some pretty good stuff between those two dates.

A correct 67 wheel has four rivets on the back of the spokes.

I never noticed that. I just looked at my 66 wheel and it only has three on each spoke.

The face of the spokes differ as well as a re-designed center cap/horn button.
As noted 3 rivets Vs 4 and I think there is a difference in the depth from rim to center cap.
1966;

65-66 same wheel.
67-only.
68-70 same.

looks like it's been stained black. I've never seen a "black" real wood Grant steering wheel.

Do you have to re-wire the horn to get these to fit? I have the standard black plastic wheel but always admired how these look. Just not sure I could cough up $700 - $800 for a refurbished original without my wife throwing a fit.

It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. I was fortunate that my car still had the original wheel on it. It cost me under $300 to have it restored. I think there is an installation kit that goes with the Grant wheel to make the horn work.

I would go with the 400$ re-pops before anything else.
That's just my two cents

I stepped into sh!t finding my wheel.
It was in the original box and all.
Cost me $500

The correct Grant wood steering wheel kit is 3196. The plunger hole in the hub mount will be on the upper left side at about 11 o'clock. Once I installed this kit I had no more issues with the wiring or horns.

Have an original '67 GTO wood wheel with original bezel and cap. The rim has a few cracks, but have had much worse. Could be PC7'ed, sanded down, and restained, or recast in the future. $290 plus the ride.

What GT182 said, my original steering wheel long gone by previous owner, and not wanting to put a second mortgage on the house, I went with a Grant wood wheel with the horn install kit. Worked well, no complaints. Irgoatmike

Mike might agree with me... there's more meat to grab a hold of with the Grant wheel. I couldn't get used to the original skinny steering wheel. That's the real reason I went with the Grant wheel. I still have the origina stored away,l but I doubt I'll ever reinstall it. I could sell it but it's probably better to hang on to it and sell it with the car.... if I ever do sell it.
