Default Custom 8 lugs on a 63 Buick Riviera?

Was wandering around Facebook and stumbled onto a custom 63 Buick Riviera with 8 lug drums and some wild custom rims they made to go with it.
The name of the shop is River City Speed & Custom. Doesn't look like they have a regular web page, but if you're on Facebook, then you can probably have a better look. Lots of pics.

Not sure if I like it or not. I'm on the fence.

Too me there is too much solid aluminum around the center of the wheel.

I agree. Just thought it was interesting that some folks are using the 8 lugs on their customs. First time I've really seen something like that, particularly on a non Pontiac ride.

There is a reason that he used 8 lug wheels on this car. It is a clone of
a show car that Bill Mitchell built for the Auto Shows. It looks identical to the Bill Mitchell design with the identical roof line, and it's even painted the same color. The Bill Mitchell car
used stock Pontiac 8 lug wheels.

Looks like he used a Torino roofline?

I saw that one also, but the one i thought was cool was the 8 lug with disc brakes made by Rousch. Can't find any info though.

I give him points for effort. Any homage to the Pontiac 8 lug is ok by me.

I've told this story before, but briefly: I was coming home off the Woodward Cruise one night in the GP and some guy in a '65ish Impala pulled up next to me. We exchanged nods, and sat in silence for a few moments before he said "....you know, I just love those wheels!"

I said "...you know, I do too!!"

(lol) Thought it was cool that even non-Pontiac folks appreciated the 8 lug.

I think Mr Mitchell would object to this show car custom as being too soft.

He liked really crisp lines, like the crease in a freshly pressed pair of dress pants (his words).

You can see it in the roofline and quarters of the production Riv posted (or the "Silver Arrow" show car - essentially the same) or in a '63 - '67 Corvette.

I don't think they are doing that anymore.

Initially I viewed the close-up detail pix and didn't view the '68/69 Ford Torino Sportsroof grafting... until reading K's comments above. Now I see what he's talking about. Agree.

Wheels look OK except that Hoop to Center section looks like it needs a bead of weld or something to fill the gap. "A For Effort" some elements look great separately - all together - no better than the original IMO. I've no skin in the game

I'm on the fence about the wheels, but leaning towards no. The roof gotta go though - thats clearly a ford part to me.

I love L-88 hood scoops, but can't put one on my firebird. I also had 8-lugs before. I have a thing for disc brakes. The 8-lugs do make for a really pretty wheel though.

Interesting project and nice craftsmanship. I'm a huge fan of 65 Riv's...at least this wasn't one of those.

I was in the Henry Ford Museum yesterday, saw this Riv and was reminded of our earlier conversation.

Posting this here to emphasize those sharp lines around the rear window and on the rear quarters.
