I am new to the GTO world and have identified a slight fuel overflow issue of some type on my quadrajet so I started poking around my carb... and not finding anything near what i was expecting.
Quadrajet #17080213 (these markings are scored out with 4 deep lines) from what I have researched this means: 1980, 4bbl, Q-Jet, Chevy, Manual Trans. and 2032 CPX stamped under the quad#. But I have come across some random info on here with 1705 carbs being '68-69 service replacements {thread} The part number does not match what i see..... 1. its got a Pontiac style fuel inlet (i thought this was a part of the casting and not adaptable)... 2. my car is an automatic (th700r4 currently). 3. from what I have seen this carb would normally have a electronic choke, and thats not the case here. But, after looking more... The carb looks like a stock 69 to my untrained eye. Any input on the scored out numbers?? or if this looks like a period correct carb? Pictures: carb - Album on Imgur (ignore the exposed wires... thats a separate routing / protection issue I will take care of) |

it looks like a 69 pontiac carb..i'd say the numbers where stamped and where wrong and the lines are the way the company tried to correct it...cuz a pontiac and chevy fuel bowl are diff...
or..it went thru a rebuilder and maybe they screwed it up........is it a carter or rochester? whats the copper colored tag have on it? the site you have them hosted on sucks for my browser... those rebuilder really screw stuff up and mix and match

Looks like a Pontiac Service Replacement of some sort.
What is the cast number back on float bowl? What is the fine stamped number beneith the fuel inlet? 1968 throttle plate with the timing retard port (passenger side). 1969 choke plate (with screws further apart than 1968 and earlier). 1970 and later accpump lever rod (without clip). Torx screws holding airhorn (used on mant SR units) Alu-tag on drivers side were often used on units with "booking numbers" vs OEM Carburetor, not sure on yours though. Also, looks like you´re using 2 PCV-valves? Only the one in valley cover is required. Hose to the one in valve cover should be routed to aircleaner valve and the hose, from the "ported" source next to fuel inlet drivers side, (now routed to the aircleaner?), shold be routed to ignition timing vacuum advance. |

Thanks Marx and kenth,
I just bought the car so I am still learning, will pull the other numbers and research the individual components of the carb that way. I am still trying to learn about PCV system... I dont have the service and assembly manuals yet so google is only so much help good to know something looks off. Just to driver side of the carb fuel inlet, that small hose is indeed running to the air cleaner, there is a "t" fitting on that line so the air cleaners 2 snorkles are comnected from that tube. Honestly I need to find a correct diagram of hose routing in order to comprehend what's going on... I believe currently the distributors vacuum advance is connected to a dual port on the front passenger side of the manifold (not sure what to call it)... The second port is connected to a port on the rear center base of the carburetor. |
