Default rear fender decal/sticker color

I have a 68 Solar red with black interior/black convertible top, what is the correct color for the "GTO" decal on the fender. Black or White?

I thought I saw a chart, but can not find it.

thanks,

I think this is tied to the color of the top - be it paint, vinyl or convertible.

Black top - black sticker?

white top - white sticker (disregard mods - look at color combination)

It was tied to interior color, a 68 dealer album or trim booklet would answer the question.

If 69 is an indication a red car with a red or white interior would have white decals while a black interior would have black decal. same thing for paint stripes.

I've been wondering about this myself for my own car. I have a set of white and also a set of black. Can't decide but the information I found back when I was researching this was that either color was available with my color combo. When I got the car, the decals were white. The car had been painted but I think the painter probably went back with the original color decals.
I'm thinking like Kurt and I may go black to match the top. It may not be what came on it originally but it's still correct.

The information IS out there..I'm thinking that I found it in the Zazarine book along with information on steel wheel color options, etc. Basically, what I found was that certain car colors had a choice of two or more variations on decal colors and certain colors only showed one. Say for instance, a Mayfair Maize car might only be offered with a black decal whereas an Alpine car might be offered with black or white. Starlight might get red or white, etc.
I'll see if I can find the chart.

The factory selection was just the recommended color, you could probably ask for a change (not to mention the 5 minute job of the dealer changing them or yourself back in the day).

Many years ago I had a red on red 69 GTO convertible with a factory ivory top. When I got the car it still had the original white RA stickers but the top had been changed to black. When I painted the car I switched them to black, more subtle in my opinion.

I have never been a fan of decals so I like them to not jump out at you.

All the red 68's I remember seeing have a white GTO decal. I think the Ames & PY catalogs have them referenced as to what color decal goes with what body color.

Unless we find the chart specifically stating the color, it seems like it is a personal choice for either Black or White.

Thanks for the help....

Yeah, thanks Diego. That's just what I was thinking of. I agree that they were recommendations but they are good ones in my opinion.
So....what do you guys think about my Meridian Turquoise with Black top car...should I go Black, or White? Like I said, I've got them both but haven't decided yet.

I'd say black, goes with the top, interior, and the wheels.

I'm kinda leaning that way too...although the interior is turquoise...when I get it in there. I do think the black will go well with the top and the wheels.

Greg, as currently configured, I recommend black. White would jump out and draw attention just because it was a counter color to the rest of your combination. Black would meld in with the overall design for a more subtle call out of just who someone was messing with.

Well, thanks a lot Jimmy M... now I'm right back where I started. Maybe white on one side and black on the other. You can only see one side at a time right? ...lol..

Sorry guys...I don't know why I chose white other than the other badges had white in them, and white looked "cleaner" to me?
Greg, maybe photoshop can help...take a pic of the quarter and overlay both and see what grabs you??

I was just ribbin you Jimmy. I think I'm leaning towards black with mine although I think white goes great with your Alpine(?) car.... I don't know why but I don't think black would look as good with yours.
