Default GM warranty question

What would the drivetrain warranty have been on a Dec. '68-built 1969 Ram Air GTO? Would it have still been covered for engine failure in early 1972? Looking at an SR block for my engine-less project. Thanks in advance.

I think warranties were 12 month 12k miles back then.

You could still have had a 72 dated SR block installed out of warranty coverage at a dealership on your dime.

Correct - SR block does not only mean warranty. It signifies replacement - Service Replacement. Paperwork is your friend here, whether dealer installed as warranty or replacement for something that failed once out of warranty (no blame assigned...)

your 12 month / 12k would start whenever the car was first sold. if for some reason the car sat unsold for however long, it would start at that point.

In Canada GM's had a 5year 50,000 mile powertrain warranty along with the 12 month 12,000 mile general warranty.

Bear in mind that this extra warranty was very restrictive, it only included engine innards like crank, block, heads but not carb, waterpump etc, same for trans and diff.

I'll check tonight if the US sold cars had the same warranty? Never thought of it before. I have a few 69 warranty booklets and the 69 warranty time manual, must be in there.

my 1984 gmc dually came with the 5 yr 50k power train warranty. I got it with a commercial haul package which I didn't realize but came with mandatory 4:56 rear. gm ate 13 transmissions under warranty on that truck.

Just checked a 69 pontiac new car warranty folder from a US sold car, same thing, 12 month 12,000 miles total coverage and powertrain was 5yr and 50,000 miles.

Bet they lost money on every RA IV they sold.
