Some may remember this car posted here a couple years back. I just made a deal on it and plan on doing a couple things to it that may - or may not - prove controversial around here. But I'm a big boy, I can take it. Yes, it came out of a shed on a farm. Yes, it is a "survivor". So we can check those cliche boxes. I figured it's the only opportunity I will ever have to buy a car from the original owner. Couldn't pass it up. Stay tuned.

Nice. All the pix are great but I'm starting to cringe already.

1st thing I'd do is get rid of the giant Pontiac stickers.

I'd rock them! They remind me of the Superbirds and Daytonas

Please do not tell us you are going to ruin that car with an LS motor.
It's a score, I like it as is, detail and drive it. More photos please!! |

10+ years ago it would have been a no-brainer to restore that car. Now, it's the opposite. I'd do nothing more than give it a thorough clean up, address any mechanical needs, remove the faux Superbird decals (I know some like them, but Pontiac didn't build it that way...), and drive it. It would get more attention than the nicest restored cars at a Pontiac event.
I saved all the pics posted - great future restoration reference. Interesting to note there's no bird decal on the nose. Pontiac did ship a number of them that way around the time this car was built. With all the glare on that part of the car in the original picture of it, can't tell if it was "birdless" when new or not...

Great car. Good luck with the project.
The trunk area looks pretty unmolested. Can you verify where the rubber trunk seal seam is?

Nice car and love the fact it's vintage all there too.
Can the crusty bottom stuff be repainted. Well enough or another method? How do you clean off rust? Plus isn't that what eats at the subframe as well. Can't leave it as that's what protects the frame structure and sheetmetal.

Both my '70 and '71 T/As have their original trunk weatherstrips and neither has a seam (they are one continuous loop)

Well, the decal actually "Partiac" so it must be a party car from back in the day. :-)
I like it. Just clean her off and get her back on the road. |

Looks like a car in need of a Mild Resto. Doors are Rusting under the Paint. You leave them like that to long and you will be sorry you did. Front sheet metal looks a little jacked up on the drivers side (Maybe pics) and the rear bumper looks to have taken a hit. Lower front and rear valance is rusting also. Re-paint Doors, Valance and outside parts that need paint only with Lacquer and blend. Then leave the rest alone.
