Default Kyle Busch Granted Waiver???

Quote:
NASCAR announced today that Kyle Busch will remain eligible to compete for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship. Busch will qualify for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup by meeting all requirements of eligibility excluding Rule 17.6.2.1.a, which requires a driver to start all Championship Events of the current season.
This is what I dislike about the new Chase format. Just winning a race (for most drivers) will get you into the Chase for the Championship.

It's always been my feeling that the Championship belongs to the driver that has the best overall season. How can you contend for the Championship when you miss a third of the season???

At least NASCAR didn't give Kyle a waiver on having to finish in the top 30 in points. That will most likely keep him out of the Chase.

It will be interesting watching Kyle try to make it though. He needs to try and win a race, but can't afford any DNF's. Top 10's in every race are almost mandatory as he only has 15 races to go from last place in the points to 30th and is currently 179 points out of 30th.

No doubt.
Look for Kyle to be making a charge in every race....rattling some cages, to borrow a phrase.

My guess is he'll either get suspended or make the chase.

Kyle has a penchant for checkers or wreckers and being extremely hard on his equipment. He hasn't had a 15 race stretch where he didn't either wreck, have mechanical problems or just not perform well enough to put 15 Top 25 finishes in a row.

One blown motor, one early wreck or one day that his crew doesn't give him a perfect car and he'll be done.

Even assuming he can win a race. Just a reminder, Kyle hasn't won a race since March of 2014, so it's not like he's been a consistent winner either.

NASCAR - "These are the rules until we change them, then those are the rules."

The kid can drive, no doubt about it.

And he can wreck too...

Sometimes more than once at the same track on the same day...

At Kansas - October of 2013 - Wreck #1, Turn 1 on Lap 1:

Later the same day, just before the entrance to Turn 1:

And the crowning touch that took him out of the race in Turn 1:

I couldn't believe my "luck" that I'd be able to capture 3 of Kyle's wrecks in one day with my Nikon DSLR.

Bonus shot - on the hook - done for the day...

Not sure why, but when I read that "The King" Richard Petty & Dale Sr. popped into my head. If they weren't winning they were wrecking!

Too many of the drivers today think that driving around in the pack is racing. Very few of the driver's today are out there RACING! I'm not a fan of Kyle, but I can still appreciate his drive.

Cool shots BTW!

I used to not be a fan of the Busch brothers, but like them or hate them, Kyle and Kurt are 2 of the best and most talented drivers currently out there.

Yup, both Richard and Dale had their fair share of wrecks. But neither one of them would have liked the Chase for the Championship as it stands now. Both of them manage to win 7 titles the old fashioned (and more difficult) way - by having the best overall season and accumulating the most points.

And just for frame of reference - there didn't used to be a requirement that you compete in every race. Richard, among several other Cup Champions, did not run every race in all 7 of his Championships.

Thanks for the props on my photos! Action photography is something I've been doing since the early 70's.

I don't get too excited about being fastest in practice for any race, much less a non point race.

Big setback in his hopes to make the chase at Dover. 36th place and a DNF.
