Default 64 GTO dash wire harness

i need a nice clean used dash wire harness for the cluster down o the fuse block. I have one with rusty fuse holders, I don't know if they can be replaced. Let me know what you have. Thanks!

You cab replace the fuse holders with a little patience. I have some clean fuse blocks, will get some pics tomorrow.

Thanks Bob. My first choice would be to find a good harness that I can just install without any additional work. If none available, I will consider your fuse block. If I use your fuse block, I will also have to replace some wiring which should not be a problem. I have a fairly decent 65 harness. Do you know if I can use a 65 harness for the wiring? Is there any chance that I can use a 64 fuse block on a 65 harness? I am just checking all the options for the cleanest overall outcome. Thanks for your help.

I just replaced my 64 harness with a new harness from our sponsor (basically it is an M&H Harness).
I have to say although it was more than I wanted to pay (~$400), it was an absolutely fantastic install and great quality. Everything was perfect; from the crimps to the color coding to the lengths of wire-and it comes with a new fuse block as well.
If you're going to go through all that trouble, and you can afford it you might as well go with a new one.
I feel much more comfortable driving the car knowing that everything is new under the dash now. The old one was such a mess, portions were spliced 3-4 times and some wires just fell apart in my hands as I was removing it.

In the days of old, and having no money, I had wiring harnesses that had rusty fuse holders. Just a little rust, not rusted out completely and falling out of the fuse box. I would soak the box in a mild muriatric acid/rust dissolver and it would remove the rust. The harness was fine after that for years. If the text on the fuse box is still legible, you can clear put down a coat of clear nail polish to protect it.

Great suggestions. I have the money, I just can't spend $400 on something that is not chrome. I also prefer to use OEM whenever possible. I will keep looking but will attempt the acid route prior to buying the aftermarket harness. Does anyone know what it would take to use a 65 harness without cutting the firewall to mount the 65 fuse block? Thanks!

hahaha, great reply. It's not chrome, but it is copper (you just can't see most of it and you don't have to polish it).

Wait..., you want OEM, but you would consider a 65 harness in a '64? OK, to each his own.

FWIW, the replacement harness from M&H is virtually indistinguishable from the OEM harness (minus the corrosion, splices, dirt, rust, etc. on the old one). I'm guessing if you're doing nothing else except replacing the harnes, it should take about 3 hours. It took me a bit longer because I replaced all the bulbs and did a complete dash resto while I was at it.

Thanks for the advice. I am glad to hear that the new harness at least looks the same as OEM. That makes it more tempting. I think I will ask in the tech section before I jump.

Let me know if you want to see some pics, I'll see if I can get my fatazz under the dash to get some. Fuse block should be easy enough though.

I may have one. I have 2 harnesses, one I robbed a few bulb fittings, ignition switch plug, and headlight switch plug from. I'll look tomorrow. One of them was given to me by Andre. If it's useable you can have it. Just send me a few dollars for a flat rate box.

is top-notch stuff...if that helps. Don't confuse it with others like Painless that are nothing like OEM. M&H is what I've been using for decades and there is a reason they supply all the major vendors. Just my vote of confidence. Hope it helps.

Bob, thanks for the response. I never received your PM for some strange reason. Do you mind re-sending it?
