Opticlean Bottle
Would a 61 with 2 speed wipers come with the triangular glass solvent bottle?

It could have;
Offered Factory &/or Dealer. I'm just not clear on the correct label. I would think the B&W label would be an early version, but found it listed as later design. The colored label was listed as pre '61. The B&W label was listed 61-65 1st design "Factory" But either way YES you could have gotten one in a '61

Doing some more research here and it appears that BOP and Cadillac used Kleer-View... (59-64)...and Chevrolet had Optikleen......
OR after 64,did they ALL change to Optikleen?

FWIW a little more Early Washer Fluid Bottle info;
Quote:
So said car would likely need to have the Washer option or the Kleer View/ Optikleen concentrate bottles would moot. As far as use and labels go there very little info, about these but it is clear they could be Factory and Dealer. Pre 66 info leans on mostly a mostly factory option coinciding with Washer option upgrade. Based on what little I could find it dose look as though after 65 it all became Dealer Optikleen kits. I did find several labels used exclusively by other GM divisions but only the one B&W/early label that mentions Pontiac. Early Pontiac, 1st pic. Also shown above. Second version of an early label, 2nd pic. Early 61-67 Olds label, 3rd pic. Dealer Optikleen Kit, listed as 68/69 1050418. This is also the number on one of the most commonly reproed labels I've come across. pics 4&5. Most of the info I've come across mentions at least 3 different Brackets and the brackets all had separate part numbers and sold seperate I also came across a PLASTIC Triangular Optikleen bottle but couldn't save the image. Being plastic, one would think this was used later than '68/'69? I also couldn't find any '60-'61 Pontiacs with a bottle showing for placement, which is likely why there is little known. But they did exist just no so common.

I've seen a couple 61s over the years with the bottle, but not many. I'm pretty sure it wasn't automatically included on cars with washers; my dad had a '61 Catalina when I was a little kid that had washers, and it never had the bottle.

OK....if anybody has a 1961 Pontiac CAR dealer selling price sheet....with options....it would likely be spelled out there.......
My 61 has a push button on the wiper switch and hoses going through grommets in the cowl....so it likely does ...or DID have squirters.... Bottle and bracket were prolly on the right front inner or rad support.....I'm guessing.... I like this one.......but not sure about squirting Methyl Hydrate on my Magic Mirror paint....

Interesting how many of these labels say furnished with your FACTORY INSTALLED washer. Does that negate the dealer only possibility?
And I don't remember the gas line antifreeze possibilities. Never thought about that and always knew it was just alcohol. So in a pinch you could buy a can of HEET to clean your windshield and motor on. Or if your gas line froze you could use the windshield washer stuff. Interesting. |

More FWIW...

Some info; indicates the Kleer View is the Factory installed version and the Optikleen was Dealer. But yet show conflicting labels? The green & red Kleer View label #988299 is listed as Dealer?? as well the last label 2MT shows, with #3789848 this is correct for/on the early GM & Chevy B&W labels but not clear if this was the same on the "Pontiac" version and is listed from FACTORY? Per one site; "From the factory, when a windshield washer was installed as a Regular Production Option (RPO), the bottle of concentrated washer fluid and its bracket were always included when the option was ordered, 1961 through 1965." The last image with the same Pt# was listed as 2nd design for 1965 also "FACTORY"? IMO the B&W KV would be the way to go but at the end of the day it's your ride and most people that look at the Fl bottle in my '66 never saw one before and/or wasn't aware they existed Most of the info; I find indicates as stated above that the bracket was a separate part at an additional cost which conflicts the above?. Also read that Dealers had to buy cases which could add to some odd use/placements per Pt#s i.e. Mr. Smith comes back a few years later and wants to add this to his Pontiac and gets a newer version in his older model? just a thought. Excerpt from the '61-'62 Parts Catalogue; Found under Maintenance Accessories. 8.800 SOLVENT WINDSHIELD WASHER (12-1 PINT BOTTLES) LESS BRACKETS. PT#989664 I have to assume that # applies to the case of 12 OK I guess I'm just overthinking this

"From the factory, when a windshield washer was installed as a Regular Production Option (RPO), the bottle of concentrated washer fluid and its bracket were always included when the option was ordered, 1961 through 1965 Just a heads up, 1963 was the end of the bottles and brackets. 1964 you had to buy your own. It was in a Pontiac NEWS FLASH.

I've seen this style reservoir on 59-64 Pontiacs that was claimed to have come from the factory with this setup. Perhaps these were actually added later on.

That's about where the vacuum canister for the linkage on tripower engines goes - those dimples may be for it instead, I'd have to look at my car to be sure.
