Default Got Duped

Bought some rally gauges and in dash tach for a 69 GTO off eBay a while back. Got them and looked really good. Sent them out to get looked over and freshened up and found out they are for a 72 Grand prix! One year only deal with seat belt warning light.
I thought they were 69 because well, I was told they were and the Speedo went to 120. I know that in 70 they went to 140. I did not know they went back down to 120 in 72! I was told specifically late in the 72 model year got the seat belt warning light.
Live and learn. Just posting so others might not make the same mistake.

Happens some times. I've bought things that I wouldn't need until years later...only to find out years later that I got stiffed.
I bought a vinyl top for a '69 GTO/Tempest from a guy on eBay because he said he'd decided to go with a non-vinyl finish. I got it, looked good...brand new as he described and put it back in the box. A few years later when I was getting ready to paint I laid it out on my roof and it was about 18" short! Maybe it was for an F-body.... I don't know.

sounds like the deal I got bidding on hotchkis leaf springs for my bird. Spent (throw away) $200 didn't open them for 3 years found out they were nova springs, not Hotchkis.

I was able to track the guy down through paypal logs. I believe he thought he was honestly selling hotchkis springs. Shame on me for that one.

Tried to resell but who wants unkown springs. Siting in the scrap metal pile now.

Later ended up buying from AMES, they fit.

This all kind of reminds me of going to a swap meet, asking someone what a parts belongs to and they ask "what do you have".

Right now, I have a set of 68 Firebird front turn signal lenses for sale in the FB For Sale section. I bought them at a swap meet for my 68 GTO. Live and learn for sure...

It's a good idea to check your parts before too much time goes by to make sure you have the right parts.

Also a good idea to research parts a little before buying as sometimes they are not listed correctly or info. may be misleading. knowing interchange is a plus also.

Good Luck with future purchases.

Goes both ways. I sold the original hood hinges for my Grand Am at a decent price to a fellow owner to allegedly use for a restoration. They were slightly loose, but usable. After a "how'd they work out" email, they admitted the reason for the purchase was to re-sell them to a hood hinge restoration company looking for cores. None of my business what they did with them, but it was deceptive.
