Default INFORMAL POLL. Please Reply.

DO my working home made Block-Off's Stink? Yes/No. Constructive criticism welcome.

The block-off is two pieces of 1/8 inch steel welded together to greatly reduce flex. The split nuts are attached then ground down to match the varying thicknesses of the intake flange. No need for a pivoting trunnion. Note the small stamped D for drivers side. Wish i could weld like Mr Marcellus.

If it seals and makes you happy, then I don't have an issue with it!

Looks fine. I have no problem running something like that. Only a die hard Pontiac person would know the difference.

did you have to heat the cast iron in order to weld it? Is there a difference between 2 - 1/8"pieces welded together and a 1/4" piece? maybe i am looking at it wrong lol. i like what you did there.

I think you did a good job! If I didn't think you did a good job I would not comment.

The 2pc of 1/8 look fine, the nuts need ground and welded and ground to a smother finish.

I'm a DIY guy with minimal tools and $, so if its not the prettiest but works, don't care what others think.

I did the same thing, but I used an aluminum block with the same thickness as the manifold. This isn't a very good picture, but you can see the block between the runners.

Looks great, we're not talking rare, multi-million dollar 1964 Ferrari GTO restoration.
Get in, drive, enjoy and dont think twice about it.

They look just fine. I made mine out of aluminum bar stock from the local scrap yard. Used my combination "vertical mill/drill press" and disc sander.

I think that Ames sells a block off plate like that for the Alum. intake. I had something like that about 20 years ago for my Alum intake on my car. I had my dad make them for me at his work. He was a millwright at Bendix in South Bend IN. & I gave him a rough pattern to make them for me & the pieces he brought home to me looked like he had cut the center out of a cast iron intake & ground it down & made the edges look just like it was part of the intake. Your look nice to. I had to look twice to see if you just hadn't cut some of the center section out of the Tri-Power intake. you did A good job.

I think the plates look fine. The welds could use a bit of cleaning up if you want it to be less noticeable.

I think it looks like crap. You should have gotten some stock plate that was at least the thickness of the manifold. Like what post 8, 15, and 17 did. Grind that weld off and give me the measurements and I'll send you 2 plates..
