Default Any Star Wars fans?

Was into the first 3 since was 17 when 1st one came out.
Wasn't really into the later ones like my kids where and still are.
They already preordered tickets for December.

After watching the trailers, starting to wonder what happens to Luke since they only show him once from behind. And not even on the poster.
Think he gets killed at the beginning by the Sith Lord?...

Speculation from what Ive heard is he went to the dark side. My daughter and I used to watch the movies all the time. We are planning on watching all 6 before it hits theaters.

Cool My oldest boy is a Star Wars geek..........

And the whole family is looking forward to seeing this new episode. But NOT on opening night!

I saw the premier showing way back when (May 25th, 1977) sort of by accident. I hadn't heard of Star Wars, but saw the line of people waiting to watch and asked one what was going on. He told me that it was going to be the best science fiction show ever, so I got into line and waited with him. He wasn't wrong - it was great!!

Somewhere in my stuff, I still have the little blue "May The Force Be With You" button they gave to all of us waiting in line. Identical to the pic below.

On a side note, my wife also attended that exact, same showing at the same theatre - but I didn't meet her for another fourteen years. And (entirely coincidentally, of course) our wedding anniversary is May 25th.............

And, no, our kids are not named Luke and Leia...........really.............

My son's theory as to what happened to Luke is that he is THE bad guy in this episode - he's not on the poster and we're only teased when he puts his mechanical hand on R2D2 in the trailer...........

And Luke had PLENTY of ANGER in him - remember the path to the dark side!! On December 18th, everyone will know.

May The Force (continue to) Be With You!

I joined the SW fan club when I was 8, which was before Empire came out. Been a SW nerd ever since.
I still have all of my SW figures in a box somewhere.

I hope Disney doesn't blow this.

IIRC - Star Wars and a film known as Smokey & The Bandit both debuted in 1977...

Im a huge fan. I have Star Wars tattoos even. But I am having a hard time geting as excited about these new films as I feel like I should be.

Obviously I love the movies. But over the last 10 or 12 years Ive been really deep into the Expanded Universe. Which makes up a lot, books, comics, video games. I read a lot anyway, but last time I counted I had read just short of 100 of the books. Some are outliers in weird spots on the timeline, but for the most part they follow a linear path and keep things intact in a story arc.

Well when Disney announced they were creating new films and brought JJ on board, they also announced they were 100 percent throwing all of the EU out of the canon. So basically I just got told that I wasted my time reading something like 40,000 pages. That is a really tough pill to swallow.....

Now obviously Ive read plenty of books that found their way to the bigscreen, everyone takes liberties in the film adaptaion. Equally obvious is that Disney and JJ Abrams want to tell an original story. I get that they dont want to make a movie with that has the same ending as a book hundreds of thousands have read. But I just really feel that there is a middle ground that could have been had. If they had kept the family structure the same, Luke is married to Mara Jade, his sons name is Ben, Han and Leia's kids are Jacen, Jaina, and Anikan.....if they had just given me that bit of continuity I could really take any other changes in stride.

Ill end the rant there because I could go on and on. This is one that just strikes a little close to the bone for me. I will go see the movies, I hope they are good. I just dont really know how I will feel until I see them.

The trailer to me feels like the director is trying to tell me a story about my 12th birthday party. I was there, and he wasnt, and he has all the facts wrong.......

Word is Jar Jar won't be back. Which is fine by me.

Seriously though .... from a marketing point of view it is not surprising Disney dumped Expanded Universe and everything else not directly related to the movie timelines. Personally, I would like to see films based on stories such as unimaginably powerful invertebrate Sith Lords dead for 100s of millennia being inadvertently resurrected and invading Jedi bodies to do masterful acts of evil such as effecting entire planetary systems with their minds to destroy whole civilizations in a single swoop. But I think we can agree such things would be too complex for the general populace which has no intent or interest in expanding beyond the simplicity of the films in their present form.

Anyone else remember Godzilla movies? All I want to see is Godizilla beating up evil monsters and not the filler of people in the movies yelling Godizilla and pointing. Star Wars is the same all I want to see is Jedis against Sith and not all the filler of goofy characters boring me to death. Hype for Star Wars movies have been huge but largely disappointing and boring.
Look Godzilla

Just picked up Star Wars: The Complete Saga collection to re-watch all 6 Episodes.
The video and audio quality is amazing when compared to the older copies.

We had a LightSabre Battle at Toronto City Hall last weekend. Hundreds turned out, many in full Sith and Jedi outfits to do battle.

Like this one?

Star Wars: The Complete Saga collection

Some of the reviewers didn't like the changes.

Not sure I've seen the last 2 but some reviews back then seemed not really good?

Back in 1977 (and later for the other sequels) the special effects were state of the art.

Now it probably seems hokey.

Asked my son what he thought the other night.
You guys are correct.

He said; "did you not watch Return Of The Jedi?" with a

Yoda said he would turn if the didn't complete his training before saving(or not saving) his friends.

While fighting he was losing(or had) to Vader until he gave up Lea's identity. That's what pushed Luke towards the dark side(anger and fear to save her and friends from Emperor and Vader).

Then he said mentioned some lines from the emperor;

Your hate has made you powerful.
Strike me down with all your hatred, and your path to the dark side will be complete.
He tried but Vader blocked his strike.

After going gonzo and defeating Vader, looking at his hand, had actually realized how powerful he had became. Not that he felt bad for Vadoer.
When Luke refused to join the Emperor he was hiding the fact he had turned.
He realized Luke was now powerful enough to destroy him given the chance.
That's why he was killing him.

Makes perfect sense...

I thought it was no coincidence that Luke has been absent from the promo's. They're just waiting to drop that bomb
