Default 68 GTO disc conversion

I purchased a disc brake kit from right stuff. All stuff mounted on spindles complete. The proportioning valve they give you to mount on the master cylinder requires new lines from the distribution block up. Can I eliminate the distribution block and put the proportioning valve in its place? or do I need to keep the distribution block and pipe new lines from it to the new proportioning valve? I would prefer to just get rid of the distribution block and mount the new proportioning valve in its place. A lot let lines to run.

Thanks in advance.

See if the vendor has a tech support number and call and ask. I'm sure there are some out here who have done this that will help. As for the first answer you got I would ask what side off the bed you woke up on and if that is called help we are all in trouble on this forum .

well..i wasnt being a dick..MD79TA, i was being direct...and you dont need to be so passive agressive..my name is Mark...you can address me directly if you have something to say...you can email or pm me instead of stepping on this members post with petty insults

I was on my way out the door when i posted this earlier...i thought it was important enough to state the obvious...and had planned to follow up if no one else did by the time i got a chance to sit down and write this

a distribution block is just that, theres 2 sizes of lines..so if you eliminate it whatt ya gonna do? it splits in 3 directions..so..if its gone it just wont work

discs require more volume to work..drums not so much..so the amount of fluid is directed in the right direction by the distribution block

the proportioning valve is a hold off valve so when you slam the brakes on the rear doesnt lock up..it has nothing to do with the fluid distribution paths..its more of a regulator.

and i am sure the directions state whats what ..its a kit follow the kits directions..to be safe...it is your life when dealing with brakes..so if theres a new distribution block and a prop valve you need them both..if they want you to use the orig dist use it, install the prop valve where it says it should be and plumb new lines....get a line bender and a flaring kit and practice a couple times if you never used one..you can rent them for free at autozone...you pay and when youreturn them they refund your money..

go here..read thru this post before you finish..theres a great resource here..its huge and you can search anything you want

http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107745

you can look at the whole list here..if theres other things you want to check before you finish..any question has been asked and answered here at least once

http://www.chevelles.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16

you can join the forum...ive spent untold hours just using the resotoration resources that member have posted..its a valuable tool.

It's always best to follow the directions. They are there for a reason.

Default 68 GTO disc conversion

Maybe I was not correct in my description or labeling. The new kit comes with a master cylinder and a disc/drum valve that all 5 lines connect into. Has a bracket to mount it to the master cylinder and harness for the switch on top of it. It looks like the distribution block mounted on the frame, but is specific for disc/drum instead of just drum. I thought I could just swap them? Hope I am making sense.
Thanks.

u are getting a little more clear.

so your kit came with a combination valve?...its a prop and distribution valve?

if so, it eliminates the one on the frame..

but you have to have all the elements...you need a dist block and a prop valve..whether it a one piece or 2

i ask because, in 71 GM used a combination valve down on the frame..its a flat 1/2 in thick or so but has a KNOT on one end and is iron...thats the prop valve part of it...drums have just a flat brass block screwed to the frame

whats your kit number

is it a factory replacement, meaning it all bolts on and works like the factory, or its an aftermarket replacement and you use everything included in the kit.

did they offer a line kit for the kit you have or do they say you have to make lines?

Kit number is AFXDCO6C, Right stuff brand. Everything mounted up fine on the spindle aspect. As for the directions, they leave a lot to be desired. They say nothing about running new lines. It comes with two small lines to connect the master cylinder to this new valve which attaches to the master cylinder. I still have 3 open holes on this valve that need brake lines attached to it. I'm not fond of this set up and would prefer if acceptable to use this new combination valve in place of the old one on the frame and have a more original look. They both have openings for 5 lines all in the same configuration.
Thanks
