#202 at MCACN '15
Well after many years of sitting dead on a driveway in Santa Clara, CA, being rescued and then moved from one storage facility to the next, 1978 Macho Trans Am Turbo #202 is finally complete and running!
I purchased #202 after seeing it posted on e-bay almost 4 years ago. It was a rolling basket case with 4 rolling wheels. It had a fresh paint job that had been bumped and scraped all over, a number of new GM parts and a rebuilt engine that turned out to be incorrect and ruined. This was a hard lesson to learn in never, ever purchasing a car in this situation without seeing it in person first! Without the help of Joe Hand, the car would not be here and running today! Overall, I think it was worth the effort and deemed worth restoring. I first learned about the MCACN show several years ago after seeing it written up in various car magazines. I quickly realized it was the place to go to see some really nice and very rare cars. I feel very fortunate to have been able to attend and show a car this year. In fact, I was more excited about attending than actually showing! #202 still has more work needed, but is at least in one piece at this point. I look forward to bringing it out to future shows. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know some guys from PY at the show as well! http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/...psbdp3ei71.jpg |

All-
Thanks for the nice comments. I am new at posting pics, thanks Chris for the interior and engine shots! #202 received a "Pick Award" from Don Keefe on Saturday morning. Don is a noted Pontiac editor and writer and as a sponsor of MCACN, was given the opportunity to select his favorite car of the show. It was icing on the cake for an awesome weekend. I was extremely surprised and humbled by his interest in the car! Alvin, you were correct in your description and probably had seen a picture of #202 as it sat dead on the drive in CA for years. I am attaching a "before" picture of it. Very sad! http://s1175.photobucket.com/user/gl...qubmr.jpg.html Jim |

Recaros
Alvin-
Yes, you spy Recaro seats! I have no idea what "Gen" they are. Can you or anyone else help me on this? From what I can tell, they are correct for the car/period. They were fully recovered in NOS Lombardy cloth. However, I have a question about some type of elastic "bands" I have for them that are not currently installed. Thanks, Jim |

Chris-
Thanks, I actually took some polish to it a few weeks before the show. I can honestly say I have never polished a license plate before. From the picture, doesn't it look like it has had the life run out of it with the bald, flat tires? It is really sad because the last registered owner is a recluse and won't talk to me. I can only imagine the stories he could tell about all the fun he had with that car! I am thinking about sending him a picture of it from the show so he can see how it turned out. Jim |

Well, now that's the one I was originally thinking of...seems pix are removed or buried deep in the InterWebz now. Have other angles of same location & car saved on PC.
Congrats on the excellent resurrection! |

Jim - once again congrats on completing the journey. Macho 202 found a wonderful Caretaker and you should be proud of your efforts. The car looks great and I can't wait to see some more pictures and to follow you and the car in the future.

Perhaps they (RECARO) could assist in the elastic "bands" with install correctly direction. We have a local SCCA parts jobber that's a Recaro dealer...perhaps you have the same in your area? Idea: Take a look @ Grassroots MotorSports and Hemmings for other Recaro dealers/restore options Hope this helps you. |
