First, why did you replace the original hinges and springs? The hinges can be rebuilt and rebushed to BETTER THAN NEW specs, with closer tolerances. "Bill"!

Are you saying that you have new hinges, but using the original springs?

If so, try new springs. Old ones may be too weak.

I bought repop hinges and springs last year, and they work fine.

Old hinges were somewhat bent, not allowing for hood alignment. If someone wants to rebuild orig hinges, so be it. I opted for rebuilt. Original springs seem very strong. Any ideas why hood will not stay up???

That is why they are rebuilt. lack of lub over the years. hood doesn't fit right. Have to push, pull, twist to get the gaps correct. Assembly plant did not do that when installed new. Repro never better than original. "Bill"!
New hinge geometry may not be correct.

That's was the problem I had, hood to high at rear. No amount of adjusting would correct it. My original hinges and springs had been sandblasted and painted twice over the years, which probably weakened the springs. My hood would stay up if engine was off, but with engine running the hood would eventually slam shut.
I would say that new springs would take care of your problem.

On a side note, the old springs can be repurposed to hang a bench swing

I think Bill may have it right concerning the hinge geometry being off with the repro hinges.

I have changed the springs from a parts car I have, and the hood still will not stay up.

Call 818 845-3574, Rowland Hall. It will take longer to ship to California and back than it takes him to repair. And the price is cheap... Bolt them on, shut the hood. May have to adjust the cowl gap. That's it. DONE. "Bill"!

I agree rebuilding originals is the only way to go. Does Bill have them cad plated as well?

I think I misled everyone by saying I had rebuilt hinges when I meant to say repro. My orig ones were warped and thrown away by the guy that painted my car. Would it be a waste to send repros to Mr. Hall??

421-6speed, that question opens a can of worms. My hinges are natural. Rowland has rebuilt hinges for over 25 years for ALL types of cars. He told me they were natural, BUT if you read the threads I offered several posts earlier, you saw some disagreement, soooo that is your decision!

There are two other places I found also.Depending on how concern you are about detail. You may want to ask questions.

do they use the spiral headed rivets and are they over sized heads. Some of the rivets also have letters stamped in heads.

I had mine phos coated . what I consider to be correct. You can do that your self with magnanze (gun blue)

What led you to believe they were warped? Because the hood wouldn't lay flat in the back? If so, they were worn, not warped. It's a common epidemic with these 50 year old hinges. Your best bet may be to get a set of used hinges off eBay and send them to Rowland for a rebuild.

Bill, I did not read the other threads you posted. This is a subject that comes up quite often with the 348-409 cars as well and those cars hinges are gold cad.
The hinges on this 60 Ventura I am currently doing are gray with no rust or corrosion but still could look much better so I thought maybe they were silver cad. Guess I need to call Roland and see what he has to say. Thanks for the information.

IMO to send repos out would be throwing bad money after bad money. You need to locate a good set of original hinges. Good Luck

Just a note to OP, I saw in the classified ads a pair of '64-'72 hood hinges for $80...just sayin'. Maybe good timing, eh?
