The yellow top Optima is supposed to be better, if you don't run an alternator.

But, if you got a good mini-starter, and don't wanna spend much on a batt, an 800-850 CCA old style batt will still crank most of 'em.

The Deka 778DT has 850cca, and sells for less than $100 at many local batt outlets. Bought one for my tractor.

Been using an Odyssey PC925 in the trunk of my '66 GTO for the last 5 years and still cranks the 11.4:1 428 very well. Unless you think the extra weight of a "conventional" battery will help traction, these Odyssey's are a great way to go. Can also mount on the side as shown below.

I have an AGM Superstart that has worked perfectly in the 4 years I have been using it in my Daily Driving Formula w/ 455. I've parked the car for a week or two at various times when traveling. Always starts and does so with authority.

Thanks, Craig
I just replaced my IMI Hi-torque starter with a Powermaster Ultra Torque starter. The ultra has twice the output capacity, and it showed it yesterday after I installed it and cranked my engine repeatedly with a single Optima redtop. I have an adjustable rotor for installation too, assuring the rotor is phased correctly. I'm going to upgrade my safety cutoff switch, remote solenoid and install a new alternator next weekend. I'll let you know if I see any improvement in the staging lanes this year,
