Default Victor vs brand X

Ive read the no name intakes being sold on ebay for 100 bucks are as good as the 400.00 Victor intakes. Anyone actually done any testing with the brand X Intake?

Post a link to which intake your talking about. I know there are some other intakes that compete with a Torker 2, but not really up to Victor standards.

Why experiment, be safe and buy the Victor.

No $ 100 ebay intake will beat the Victor if your combo needs a victor

That's an original Torker, that's been ported.

I just installed one of those brand X in place of my Victor. Granted it isn't up to Victor standards but neither is the price.

As a matter of fact it was still half the price of a Torker 2

Gary Sr can you post a link to the 'Victor' intake you used. The wording Victor being used seems confusing. You would think a copy or reproduction would be the same height as the Edelbrock Victor intake (p/n 2956 & 2957). The Edelbrock catalog suggests 7.70" tall measured from the engine, I've seen some state 6.25".

Thanks.

I replaced a Victor with a Hurricane, my stock hood didn't even come close with the Victor and I didn't want to hack it up. I'm sure I lost a little top end but I think the car is actually running better for beating around town.

The Hurricane (as was mentioned) was a rebrand of the Tomahawk, I believe. Both intakes made by the same off shore company. The Hurricane and Tomahawk being
generally based on a Ported Holley Street Dominator (HSD) intake (I believe supplied by Dr Skip Fix). That being all said, the HSD out of the box was better vs the RA-IV factory intakes and was favored by Herb Adams for his Firehawk race cars.

So I can believe the better overall street manners vs the Victor.

I still think my split Torquer 1 Intake will outperform any of the normal HSD or HSD copies on a decent engine but was $$$ to create. A Well Known western racer did the other one of those and he was happy with the results.

I have never seen any really good numbers out of a typical Torquer II intake.

Cold starts are way better. I'm running a 950 HP with a set of CNC E-heads

A properly done 950 HP will drive great and work very well on the street.

The only thing I change on the 950 carb is moving the Idle Feed Restriction from the "High Mount" position, (air and fuel mix) to the "Low Mount" (old Holley IFR position) on the metering blocks that meters just liquid fuel. Shaker 455 has done a lot of the conversions of that circuit.

Garry Sr,
"I just installed one of those brand X in place of my Victor"

Garry SR.
"I replaced a Victor with a Hurricane"

so you said first that you used one of those ebay manifolds in the posted link, then you said you used a Hurrican so witch is it?

PAUL K,
"That's an original Torker, that's been ported"
I'll retract my last statement, after looking at it closer it may just be a heavily moded Torker top of the runners welded and heat cross over removed.

Where did the OP come up with $100!?

That seller is about to get a cease and desist letter from Edelbrocks' lawyers too for having the balls to advertise that intake as an Edelbrock product with and Edlebrock number to boot...not smart

I can't take credit for the design I think it was based on Dave Bisshop's Holley modification. Although I have dynoed one of my motors with an original Dave Bisshop Holley on it and a friend has a Dave modified Holley for a Dominator we converted back to a 4150. It did well on the dyno as did my "Tall Port' Torker II.

I do have a modified Tomahawk to try- they need more weld on top to cover a 2.35-2.4 tall port.
