Default 1968 Firebird ex-IHRA drag car

1968 Firebird ex-IHRA drag car. This car was bought and converted to a B-Modified Production drag car in 1969 by the original owner. It was actively campaigned on the IHRA circuit through the mid-late 70s, but was removed from active competition when the owner took over management of a drag strip. At the time, the car was being campaigned running a 400 w/ Ram IV top end, 4-spd, and a Dana rear end. The graphics (The Phoenix) are vintage 1970.

Around 1995, the car was sold to an acquaintance bracket raced it for a year or so. He sold the car to another friend of mine, who converted it to a BBC, TH400, and upgraded the rear suspension to a 9” Ford with ladder bars and coil-overs. The roll cage and electronics were updated to 2000 standards, but the body was left original. After the drivetrain change, the owner made several passes to dial in the suspension, but never raced it. The owner decided to take early retirement and I bought the car around 2001 with the intent of doing a little bracket racing. I never got around to it, and the car has sat in a garage since 2001.

The stretched rear quarter panels are all steel and were built from multiple GM factory quarters. The front clip is all fiberglass with the exception of the front bumper and core support. The car comes with both a fiberglass and steel trunk lid.

This would be an excellent car for the nostalgia drags. $8500 minus motor/trans.

This car can be seen in the Blue Field on spot GGB-087 at Charlotte Autofair April 7 – 9.

The photos here are about 7 - 8 years old.

Default BUMP

Cause it's driving me crazy just looking at it.

By any chance is it still available? And if so are you willing to wheel and deal a little? Maybe? Possibly?

If nothing else, thanks for bringing back some good memories.
