John's 69 RAIII GTO
Summer of 1987 a friend of mine bought a 1969 RAIII GTO from a lady who had bought it new. This is a picture of John his senior year, in high school.
 John had just graduated and bought the car with a bad engine. He had looked at a few other GTO's but chose this one cause he thought it would be the fastest. $800 was the buy in. John had the block checked out and it was cracked bad in the lifter Valley and between two freeze plugs, needless to say, original block is long gone. With the supervision of one of his dad's friends, John rebuilt a 400 and put the biggest cam Crane had available for a Pontiac at the time (believe it was Crane). One night while driving with that engine John was spinning that sucker so hard he broke the crank at the balancer! You certainly don't hear of that to often in a Pontiac.

This is John's car now. Sat in this spot under some pine trees and less then 50' from Gales Creek. Sat here over 16 years.
 John passed away in 2000 in an automobile accident. He had already torn the car completely apart as he wanted to do a total restoration on his beloved car. The body and frame were at a mutual friends house at the time of his death. Walker, as we call him cause it's his last name, stored the car and parts this whole time. Jacqueline, John's sister, wanted to some day restore the car as she knew her brother wanted to do so bad. She finally has come to the conclusion that she does not have the time to do a restoration and has sold the car to me. Here is a shot of the frame as I found it, it got caught up in Walkers tractor at some point.

 I haven't ordered the PHS yet but John's car was ordered with the RAIII option as well as 4spd, vinyl top, rally Guage (dash tach), tilt wheel, deluxe belts, remote side mirror, safe-t-track and console. Car was Verdoro green with black top and interior. Does this look like Verdoro?

My plan is to restore this car and don't plan on ever selling it. John was a very cool guy, a motor head and very passionate about Pontiacs. I promised Jacqueline a ride in the car when it's done.
Just wanted to document things here and hope the members here will enjoy as well.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. Awesome to see you have saved his GTO, and am sure it will be beautiful, once again!
Would be remiss in not saying, am shocked to see the body survived the ravages of time covered with pine needles, have never had that luck when uncovering possible parts cars stashed under pine trees.

I see a tri-power peaking out from under the pile on the left side of the pic. Did he have the tri-power on the car when it did run??, or is that just extra parts. ?? for the car to.
