Default Gas tank straps?

Should the gas tank straps be painted black or same as the tank?

I've heard they were a black oxide finish originally. So ... a satin black would be close.

Early production straps in 69 were black, not sure if paint or some other kind of deposited coating but later 69's had straps that were galvanized with very similar appearance to the tank itself.

Here is my February Fremont built hardtop after I removed the dealer applied undercoating from the gas tank last year, my July Fremont built convertible also has those straps but my earlier (November) LeMans and two September Pontiac plant GP's have black straps.

Both of my 69's have black straps. One is an Atlanta built car the other is a Fremont built car.

They were built both ways, probably due to more than one supplier.
My February Arlington car had silver cad straps
