A movie company contacted our local AMC club about renting cars to be featured in a movie, to be made in Akron Ohio. They want my Pacer for up to one month. They take before and after pictures, have insurance, and pay 125 dollars a day. Has anyone ever done this with their cars, and how did it work out?

Did it back in the 90's for a movie in LA. It's was for 1 day and was paid 350$ for day. Be prepared for them to treat your car as just a prop! I watch them set a wood box on the hood of another car�� All in all it was fun.

My 68 Charger was in a Speedvision commercial.My 63 GP was in a Charmin commercial(Mr Whipple)My 96 Impalla was in a valvoline commercial.The Impalla was hit in the rear bumper by a runaway cart.They took care of it with no issue at all.All were NBD.Tom

Not worth it IMHO. Not when you consider your time, plus how they may possibly treat your car. Even jusjay received almost 3x that 25 years ago! That's how cheap they're being.

Heck, if that's all their willing to pay, you have to wonder if they'd really help in case of damage.

I'm President of the local AACA region so I get these request for movie cars and wedding cars etc. all the time. I was contacted last week by a gentleman that provides cars for movies, they need 60's cars for a movie being made in the Richmond area. Offered 200 dollars per day. They made it plan that they were not looking for show cars but wanted what would look like everyday driver cars. I've never bothered with it but some of our club members do it. I guess what I'm saying is, 125 isn't up to the going rate.

A lot would depend on the value of the car. $125 for a car worth $30,000 is not the same as $125/day for a car worth 10,000. Also ... depending on the movie ... it might even enhance the value of the car.

But if you have a collectible 60's car, worth 30,000 with a 8,000 paint job on it .... yeah, you might want to keep an eye on it while they are working with it.

In this case it may increase the value of the car. I told my contact to follow through and get more concrete info. The Pacer will be the only car that will be driven , by the stars, in the movie. Did Jeffrey Damler own a Pacer? That's what the movie's about. I guess ya gotta be crazy to drive an AMC.

That movie was Knight and Day I think. They ran a 66 GTO or clone pretty hard in that one.

$125 a day x 30 days or $125 a day for every day it is to be used ?

Unless your car is " cast " ahead of time it is an " extra " kept on standby for if & when needed.

As others have stated - unless you are also hired as a driver for every day your car is used - maybe not a good idea ...

My Pacer will be the only one actually driven by the actor playing Damler. . The other cars will be shown on a AMC car lot {and be on site for a few days] the 125 buck rate will apply to my car only, as it will be on site for a month or so. Don't know what the rate will be for the other short term cars.This may me be an OJ Simpson style documentery , with 4 or 5 parts to the story.{Parts,of the movie, not people.

One of the crew did knock over one of the light stands onto the car off the set - but I agree that the studio made it right with him and he was happy. That request came to me through our GTO club website, I passed it on to Les, and Les to Norm with his gold '67.

One of the '67 convertibles in our club had the paint blistered in a magazine shoot with the lights too close to the car, but they also stepped up and cut a check for the paint repair.

I had my Cruiser accepted for a street scene in Men In Black III, and had the car ready; then two days before the start I was notified the complete street scene had been dropped.

Have a brother-in-law that has a stock restored '54 Ford pickup, and he had the truck in two different Clint Eastwood films only to have a couple days work end up on the cutting room floor. While his truck is 0 for 2, he was liked well enough that they call him to drive a lot of different prop cars for general traffic scenes. He was working daily for awhile as a driver of different cars on the series Agent Carter.

Most car requests die an unanswered death after reaching me. We have a quite a few requests for music video cars, and I bet a lot of those wannabe videos are going to be done with a cell phone.

Seems like a did hear that Dalmer drove a Pacer. Heck, you could fit a lot of body parts in the back of one of those. Like the old saying goes, not all Pacers drivers are serial killers, but all serial killers drive Pacers.

There is a guy who belongs to a car club in my area. He has a storage building with over 50 cars that he rents to movie companies. Most of these cars are driver quality lower value cars. Many are 4-door cars from the 50's-early 60's. For him it's a business and he's not too worried about the cars.

I have a friend who rented his 66 Cutlass conv out for a one day shoot. In the scene the actor walked down the street and got into the car with a package in his hands. They shot the scene several times as my friend stood by and watched. He drove the car into position and there was no damage at all to the car.

I have another friend who owns the actual 68 GP that was in the movie Goodfellas. He is sorry that he let them use the car. For those who have seen the movie there is a scene where the hose down the trunk. They wound up damaging the rear seat and package tray. The car also received lots of scratches and dings. They never told him how they were going to use the car.

So, I guess it all depends.

It's a huge business in Hollywood I guess. There are companies that have hundreds and hundreds of cars going all the way back to the 20's. 99% of them "back ground" cars, so often no where near correct, can have all kinds of running gear etc., just need to look the part.
