Default Noise in engine bay

I am hearing a noise in the engine compartment that sounds like its either the water pump or the fan rattling around when I increase the throttle. No sound heard at idle. I did just replaced the Alternator belt and had to pry it on. I'm sure it's to tight and think they gave me the wrong belt. If I push in on one of the blades of the fan, the fan pulley moves about 1/4 inch or so. I'm wondering if a very tight alt belt could be causing the movement. I didn't notice the sound when running the engine without the alt belt on. Should the fan pulley have movement in it, or no movement? The car has sat for around 3 years and this is the first time starting it. If the fan pulley is suppose to have play in it, is there something that (sitting for 3 years) could/would cause the water pump to deteriorate? I'm wondering if I'm getting ready to have a pump failure and that's the noise I am hearing. Just curious to see if anyone else might have experienced this rattling sound before, as it might be something other than what I think it is.
Thanks.

Yes a over tight belt can kill a water pump bearing and seal. I say get another pump and the right belt.

1/4" at the edge of the water pump/fan pulley (assuming the bolts are tight) means the pump bearing is trashed. Time for a new pump. And no you shouldn't have to pry the belt on ... it should go on easily with the Alt adjusted to the loose position.

If I grab the pulley I can move it up and down as well as side to side with movement around an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch on all 4 quadrants. On the 69 Judge I cannot move its pulley at all, although it does have a different fan. The Judge has a flex fan/no A/C, and the standard 69 GTO has the standard A/C fan with the THERMO clutch. I'm guessing with the responses above I need a new water pump. Is this a correct assumption?
Thanks.

Yep, new pump. Basically if the pump pulley has any discernible slop at all it needs to be replaced. The pump bearing is a pair of sealed ball bearings ... and should have zero slop that you can feel by hand.
