Installing Dougs headers D567, 66 Lemans
I new here. I'm working on a 66 convertible Pontiac GTO clone, so probably a Tempest. It had a 326 and powerglide. I'm pulling that and dropping in a 428 and 200R4. I have some Doug's D567 headers with round ports to match the round port heads.
Is it possible to bolt the headers to the engine/trans while it is out of the car then drop it in the car with the everything attached? I recently did that on a Torino with shock towers, just wondering if I can do that on a Pontiac with out shock towers. Any advise would be very helpful. Thank you. Danford1 |

Sorry, not at all possible. Not nearly enough clearance.
Lay the headers in the engine compartment and use wire to hold them in place, then carefully lower the engine into place and attach the headers when the engine and trans are almost on the mounts. to the PY forums.

It is a good idea to check bolt hole alignment before its all down in the frame. But know, even with one side removed, it wont fit.
This is where the quality 1/4 inch drive tools earn there keep and come in real handy. Including some flex sockets. Some modified end wrenches may also be needed.

Lay them in then drop the motor.
