Motor mounts or mid & front plate?
. Having a new motor for my 69 gto built and will be making about 750horse.don't know If I need a mid and front plate or to go with butler performance heavy duty rubber mounts.car is street strip.and don't want solid steel motor mounts
69 gto,538ci all pontiac.com block. Th400 trans break. |

If you don't mind the vibration, go with plates, or at least a rear plate.
Just curious, with the aftermarket block, why would you consider plates, but not solid mounts ? |

Just heard bad things about solid.( breaking the mounting bosses of the block) .maybe I'm wrong ?

|
I used to run solid mounts with a front plate. I have never had and issues breaking blocks even with just the solid mounts.
With a front/mid plate you need to consider limiter bars to eliminate lateral movement.

I went with elephant ears up front and a poly trans mount. No mid-plate, and no mounts on the side of the block. For one thing, the mounts would not bolt up to my IAII block. The flat wasn't machined high enough. It's been working fine for years.

I use a solid on the drivers side and factory on the other side. I'm sure plates would be better.

Not that you are likely to do so but if you go with a front plate do not use any part of the heads as a mounting point.

I run a front and mid plate on my 535.

We've been running solid mounts with no issue so far. Going to install an all Pontiac motor plate this winter. Trying like hell to save the factory block when we spray it next year.

I use motor plates front and mid and poly trans mount. The plates makes routing large tube headers easier.

If your making over 700 hp on factory block you should not use the side motor mounts , as that is what is partly responsible for the blocks cracking down the middle the way they do!
