Default Door lock key

So I am looking for the correct pear shaped key for the door locks I ordered 2 different sets from e bay and neither will work. The key pattern is different on the blanks the grove is shaped different. I bought the replacement set from PY about 6 years ago anyone ever run into this before .

66 used the octagon door key and round trunk key... Briggs and Stratton. GM pear shaped keys were used in 69 and up. Sounds like you have the wrong keys.

As far back as I can remember this was the door trunk glove box key . The octagon key was the ignition key correct.

So your OE Door/Ignition key opens the console?, possibly worn?
Have you tried other keys to open the console?

There's one here that has a different key for each lock, but I suspect not all OE.
One key G-Box, Console & Trunk is/was the norm.
I've sometimes been able to open parts cars with keys from others.

Yeah the ignition key opens the console. I don't think it's worn. The trunk key does not work in the console. Again, both sets of original keys, and my parents bought the car new. I always thought it was odd that the console and glove box didn't use the same key.

I bought the complete set of locks and keys from PY a few years ago for my 66. The ignition keys open the doors. The trunk key opens the glove box and console.

I can't remember if the trunk or ignition key worked in the console lock or not in my 1st 66 GTO back in 1970. It had the original keys as the key codes were on both. Sadly those keys are long gone.

I'm not arguing that that isn't correct. Clearly it is. I'm just pointing out that mine was built differently for some reason (maybe someone had too many lunch beers that day).

Here's a ebay seller that has the correct ignition and trunk key blanks, (octagon and round), and will cut them for your GM car 1935-1966. $19.99 & free shipping. You will need the 4-digit code for each key. I bought a set recently, and the fit was perfect.

The keys that came with my PY set had no codes. Can and will a locksmith use the keys to get you the codes for them?

If you don't know the 4-digit code, you will need to get the number on the lock itself. The eBay guy states on his auction that if you don't know your code, you can send the lock to him and he'll make the key.
Or, if the locks are original to the car, the PHS docs will have the key code. At least mine did.

No the only thing they can do is cut duplicates if you provide the blanks. They have blanks but they are the new style keys.

So Ames is supposed to have a correct key set going to get a set and see it's all about the details for some reason just bothering me not having the correct keys.

Ames will have the correct blanks that will need to be cut. Do you have the keys that worked in the trunk and door locks. If so use them when they cut the blanks.

I have taken the tumblers out of a lock and matched them to a key and it's lock so I would have a pair of locks that would work... but that was years ago. And I was lucky they did work, as it's not easy to do.
