Default 1969 brake pedal mystery

So after ordering a couple brake pedal pads from a vendor that were too big, yet the right texture/appearance, I seem to have a problem with the brake pedal on my 1969 Firebird.

I pulled the original very worn brake pedal pad and did a Google on the GM p/n on the back. Came out to be for a 64-72 Chevelle/Olds. That means at some point my brake pedal assembly was replaced, from a Chevelle, El Camino, Olds, with drum brakes so no less.

My car still has it's numbers matching engine, trans, and rear. Why the heck would the brake pedal have been swapped out? Seems very odd.

My car is a mid Jan 69 build, Van Nuys. Perhaps there was a parts shortage? I dunno. I found the correct pad for my pedal from another vendor that I'm going to order. But I find it very odd.

I've noticed over the years that some 69 Firebirds have chevy style clutch and brake pedals and others have Pontiac A body style pedals. I don't know if this was a late early thing or a plant thing?

I replaced the pads but the originals were the same GTO style you see in the pic. The car has manual brakes so I thought it shouldn't have the bright trim but they did (notice the gas pedal doesn't have the trim). but it did get ordered with the decor group so maybe that is why it had the pedal trim (perhaps the gas pedal was replaced (they did tend to break).

My Oct 68" Van Nuys FB has a Camaro rear window crank still on it today. I figured that is what the car came with so I left it on. Chevy part number and all. As I understand it they were built on either the same line or very close to each other. Quality control wasn't a term used back then and they were jamming them out the door. I'll bet half of them were stoned as these cars were being made lol. Whatever. But I've been told that it is common to find mismatched parts on factory correct cars.

My experience boneyarding is that 67-68's all had the chevy style pedals (with the provision for the bright trim with the center bar and or disc brake logo) but 69's were half and half. So probably it was the late 69's that switched to the Pontiac style pedals (no center bars and larger pedal for automatics)?

What's even stranger in my case is that I have factory front disc brakes, but my original brake pedal pad was for non disc.

I ended up ordering this one for my car:

https://www.opgi.com/chevelle/1969/i...-pads/ADPP750/

It's a dead match for what was on there but with the proper disc brake center logo.

For the 69 FB IIRC the Chevy pedals are very different and I'm not sure if they fit properly. Much of the 69FB is a one year one off part which is the reason why some parts are not repopped for it.

This is a pic of the brake pedal for an October 68 built Van Nuys Firebird 400 with disc brakes. I purchased the car in 78 and believe it to be original.

Got me thinking, my car has the deluxe interior and I don't know what that does to trim. My original e-brake pedal has the chrome trim around it, does that mean my original brake pedal should have that too? Or did all ebrake pedals have chrome trim on all cars?

I have the deluxe interior. I have the chrome trim on the gas pedal and e-brake only. Years ago I replaced the e-brake and brake pedal from most likely the auto part store. The trim around the e-brake doesn't fit correctly. I know if I had the trim on the brake pedal, I would have re-installed it.

Huh, my gas pedal has no chrome trim. I guess that means my brake shouldn't either?
