HI all, good morning. I have a question in regards to the front bench seat in a Firebird. I found a 68 front bench (have not seen it in person yet), my car is a 69, are the seats the same except for the vinyl material & foam ? Can I take this 68 seat and recover it to make it correct for my 69 (and foam if necessary). My car has deluxe interior also. Is the 68 & 69 frame the same, never taking one of these front benches apart before, are the seating areas just a bucket foam with some padding in the middle to make it the bench or is it a one piece foam. What I am getting at is can I take a 68 front bench and make it correct for my 69. If I have to replace the original foam, does one use the deluxe bucket foam for replacement ? Seems like you could by looking at it. I also posted this inquiry in the first gen section. Please advise. Thank You.

@Tim john, I know it's been a few years but how'd it work out with the front bench recover? Any pics?

I'm not Tim, but I have redone a 67 bench before, and a ton of seats.
Yes to Tim's question, you definitely can make a 67 or 68 bench into a 69 bench, but you won't have the receiver tube for the 69 headrest. If you can get/find one it would not be a big deal to add it to the earlier frame. You may have to move/adjust the spring side listing rods for the specific seat cover pattern you are using, but thats not a huge deal, just be aware that it will need to be done when switching years/styles. I used ACI bucket buns, Complete/as-is for the upper cushions, then for the lowers i cut them apart at the inner bolsters, layered in a section of 2" HD sheet foam in between(glued together with jute underneath) Worked out great:

From what I remember the upper seat back was same as bucket seat so just use that from a 69.
69 lower was widened a little on the bucket seat, dont remember if the bench was too. I have a 69 bench apart somewhere, sent to PUI many years ago for patterns. PUI took them apart, then told us they werent interested.
