Sad to see such a nicely equipped GTO end up this way. Body and frame look borderline unfixable. Still looks pretty original and generally untouched for what that's worth....

They sell just about every panel you need...it's just a matter of how bad you want it and forget about making anything on it if that's the plan

I've seen many patchwork "quilts" that started off as a cowl...but the tag wasn't touched!
I actually know of a few cars that were bought as parts cars. One had a RA IV block in the trunk so is now a "show piece" that in my state should actually have a salvage title by law. Just sayin'...don't write this one off just yet!

How do original rally gauges come with a clock and no hood tach?

Interesting in theory on the VIN, but there isn't anywhere to do a comprehensive VIN search. Unless someone were to come into these forums and type the entire VIN in a search box, they'd never know that the car they're considering buying was a "VIN swap".

It looks like the bidding at Ebay has ended and the site indicates a sale for $5,100. Hard to believe that anyone would pay that much for it, unless they had a car that they could forge the IDs into easily. Unfortunately, that car was complete junk.

i agree. great car originally, but at this point it is complete junk. this is actually what buoys the value of other HO/4spd cars - not all of them remain.

In an ethical world, the complete cowl makes its way propperly welded into a clean donor body. if no rust in the A pillars & original roof structure, the roof could also be retained, otherwise it's just the cowl. Done right, end result would be very high quality, more so than typical result of Quickee "restorer" scabbing hip quarters, a trunk floor, & tail panels into what was a mudded up driver '67 GTO. Here's to whoever bought this car, making the correct decisions!

I see it was sold for 5100.00. Good luck to whoever bought it. After seeing the photos, I say it's not worth much at all.... surely not 5100.00.

"parked in a field in 1978...". not a single person could get this car out of the owners hands for 40 years??? what a waste!
