Does anyone have an original stripe car or a clear copy of the page that shows the rally stripe measurements?
I think I have it right but the copy in the assembly manual is very hard to read.

Let me approach this a different way..
Does anyone have the '69 assembly manual?
If so, look on page 91 and see if you can read the measurements noted. If not, I'll go with my interpretation.

I'm mainly interested in the spacing BETWEEN the stripes. I think the other stuff I can decipher. Looks like .180 to me...? But seems kind of wide...

Thanks kk68. That's definitely better than mine but still waffling on the space between. What's it look like to you? .180 or .120?

I'm pretty sure it's 0.120.
So, 0.06 or close to 1/16" for upper stripe; and 0.120 or 1/8" for lower stripe; with 0.25 or 1/4" between. Lower stripe is 1/2" above lower body line crease.
Can't read the details on exactly how the ends come to a point, but they angle together to form point.

Hope that helps. Mine had the rally stripes but I haven't put them back on yet. I plan on using the vinyl pin striping tape in 1/16" and 1/8" widths.

Boy you sure don't see many restored like that today. I'm guessing this went away after 68?

.120 seems right to me. I did a mock-up on a piece of sheetmetal using the .180 spacing and it looks good but I don't think the originals had that big of a gap between the lines.
As for when it went away Formulajones, I've never seen any car but a '68 with it and damn few of those. I'm thinking of adding a black stripe to mine using 'One-Shot' pinstriping enamel.

The stripe was an option in both 68 and 69. Pretty rare in 69 anyway with only 9 of the 450 non judge PHS's I have ordered with it. I'm not aware of any documentation stating it wasn't available with a Judge but logically it wasn't. The 9 examples I have are from various plants and colors, the earliest is Feb 69 but that is probably not meaningful since my sampling is so small. Worth noting that 6 of the 9 come from ragtops meaning 1% of hardtops had the stripe and 5% of my convertibles did.

I parted out a 69 convertible 15-20 years ago that had the Rallye stripes on the window sticker (Liberty blue with white stripes). Car had been repainted but we found the ends of the painted stripes on the inside back edge of the fenders and the inside leading edge of the doors when we pulled it apart. They were exactly as described; 1/2" from the lower body feature line to 1/8" lower stripe and 1/4" between it and the upper 1/16" stripe. I took note of it because I tried it (with stick on pin-striping) on my GTO convertible. I hated the look, it made the car seem high and took away the cleanness of the lines of the car, drawing your eyes to the bottom. My car was Matador red and I tried both white and black, black wasn't as bad since it was less noticeable but still did nothing for the car.


I guess if I had a car that had it on the PHS I'd consider putting it on the car (tape only) but I'd never add it to a car that wasn't ordered with it.

Ignore the first paragraph in my response above. I see it all now. It was the quarter inch between the lines that seemed excessive but that is clearly what that measurement is.
Good idea to try it with tape north. A lot easier to get rid of if I don't like the look. I've been going back and forth with trying it ever since I got my car back from paint.

I hear you north on the stripe not being particularly appealing and in most cases, I agree. I don't really like it on the factory photo posted earlier...but on my car, it kind of looks like it might work in black. My whole car is kind of a black, turquoise and chrome scheme. I even left the steering wheel black. Couldn't bring myself to paint such a nice original wheel. It's almost overloaded with Turquoise except for the top and wheels.

I made up a test panel using the factory measurements clarified earlier. Just to see what it looks like.

The gap between the stripes is larger than typically seen but I think it was intentional given the stripes were low and further away from the eye.

Yeah, that spacing didn't seem right and that was what I thought my original question was but it was a brain fart..I won't even try to explain.
I'm still just playing with the idea. It's like a tattoo...you need to be sure! I'll do the tape and see if it works for me first.

Greg, I would take a very clear/bright straight on side-view picture as close up as possible and then use a image editor on the computer.
You may save some time and/or tape while you mull it over.

Hey, that's pretty cool. I have no idea how to do that but I'll look into it. I mean, that's way thicker and more 'in your face' than what I would do but even that image kinda gives me a visualizer. Funny you should do it that way also because I was thinking of doing away with the spear in front of the wheel opening.

Yeah, that's probably close enough ilo. It may grow on me but right now, I'm not feelin' it. I'm still interested enough to maybe invest in a cheapo tape job to see it in person.
