Default Y. A. Tittle has passed at age 90.

I've seen pictures of him, in the day. He looked quite old back then.
RIP.
Had no idea he was still alive.

Yeah, I looked him up a year or so ago to see if he was still alive and was pretty surprised.
The thing I always remember about him was: He used the same pair of shoulder pads throughout his whole NFL career, maybe even from when he played in college.
They are on display in the Hall of Fame.

A favorite photo of mine from the golden era of the NFL.
He was 'only' 34 when this was taken but he looks old enough to be a grandfather.

A good sports trivia question would be to name as many of these QBs without looking them up.
I could name all but the Cardinals and Lions guys.

In all of my years I've never cared about pro football, but I just confirmed that Unitas is the only one I recognized. Not for the colors or number, but facial recognition.
I'll assume the one with the skin stripe on his head is Tittle.

Wow, that picture was before my time, Starr, Tarkenton, Unitas, and Tittle...I'm done. Is that John Brodie, number 12?.

Who are the rest?

back row left to right;
Milt Plum, Bobby Layne, (Cardinals QB), Billy Wade, Bart Starr, John Unitas, Norm Snead, Zeke Bratkowski

Here's a candid sideline photo of Tittle after retirement with Brodie.

So, we're you a fan of Joe Kapp when he QB'd the Pat's?

Sad to hear about Tittle, I would have guessed him to have passed long ago.

He was probably the 1st QB name I remember, Y.A. Tittle just sounded pretty cool to me and earliest NFL memory was probably around '63 season when I was 8 and living in NYC area.

Lightfoot, pretty impressive!

I got same as 77 Trashcan except I was certain of Brodie. I recall several of the other names but not associated with the matching team from that photo.

I looked up the missing 2.

Looks like the pic must have been from '61.

#14 QB for Cards that year was Sam Etcheverry. He was 31 that year. He was only in the NFL '61 and '62.

The Lions QB #15 in '61 was even more obscure, Jim Ninowski although he managed to stick around from '58-'69 although only 5 of his 31 career starts came after '62.

Played for Cleveland in '66. Appeared in all 14 games and threw 4 TD passes. I actually lived in the Cleveland area that year. Attended a game and I have a team photo, he must be in it. But no way I could recall that name.

I didn't even realize Meredith was in the league that early!

Frank Ryan was starter for the Browns in 66. Jim Ninowski was back up! The last time Cleveland won Championship was 1964 with Frank Ryan QB. I used to deliver his drycleaning when he lived in Lyndhurst Ohio. His wife wrote articles for the Plain Dealer. A REAL LONG TIME AGO!!!

Here's a bit of "foreign" Joe Kapp trivia..

I'm sure I watched...or listened to EVERY game he played...from 63-66....That was REAL football.....on REAL grass......with rain, mud and even FOG..

. Kapp is the only player to quarterback in the Super Bowl, Rose Bowl, and the Grey Cup.
